Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- Inaccurate readings due to improper placement, impacts, low battery, out of calibration, or sensor damage.
- Sensor saturation under very high exposures, which may produce unreliable values.
- False sense of security: a dosimeter measures but does not protect against exposure.
- Data loss or corruption due to full memory, unexpected shutdown, moisture, or electrostatic discharge.
- Device failure due to water, dust, extreme temperatures, or use outside the intended conditions.
- Risks associated with batteries (overheating, leakage, or swelling) if punctured, if incompatible chargers are used, or if exposed to heat.
Safe use
- Check the general condition before each use: casing intact, readable display, and sufficient battery level.
- Set the date/time, measurement period, and alarm thresholds in line with the manufacturer's instructions.
- Place the dosimeter in an area representative of personal exposure, without covering the sensor or obstructing the measurement.
- Avoid impacts, pressure, strong vibrations, or bending clips and mounts during measurement.
- Periodically monitor the readings and act with caution in the presence of unusually high values (reduce exposure or move away from the source where possible).
- Record or download the data regularly and, if possible, make backups.
- If you detect inconsistent readings, repeat the measurement or cross-check with another instrument to rule out a fault.
Storage and maintenance
- Store it clean, dry, and protected from dust, moisture, and impacts; avoid direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Do not store the device with the battery fully discharged for long periods; recharge it or replace the batteries as necessary.
- Use only compatible chargers and cables recommended by the manufacturer.
- Clean with a soft, slightly damp cloth; do not use solvents, aerosols, or compressed air on the sensor.
- Perform functional checks and the periodic verifications or calibrations specified by the manufacturer.
- Keep the firmware or software up to date where applicable, always from trusted sources.
- Transport the dosimeter in its pouch or case to avoid impacts and accidental activations.
Restrictions on use
- Do not use it as a substitute for personal protective equipment or as the sole safety measure.
- Do not use it in potentially explosive atmospheres unless the model is specifically rated for it.
- Do not immerse it or expose it to heavy rain or jets of water, unless the device is designed for such use.
- Do not open, modify, or repair it; accuracy may be compromised or the battery may be damaged.
- Keep it out of the reach of children and pets; it contains small parts and batteries.
- Do not use it if it shows cracks, corrosion, a swollen battery, or other signs of damage.
- Do not deliberately bring the sensor close to extreme sources to 'test it', as it may become saturated or deteriorate.
