Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- Crushing or entrapment of hands and feet when placing or removing loads on platforms or beneath suspended loads.
- Load falling due to overloading, defective hooks or poorly secured anchor points on dynamometers and hanging scales.
- Tipping or movement of the scale due to uneven, sloped or slippery surfaces.
- Inaccurate readings due to poor levelling, vibration, draughts or a poorly distributed load.
- Electrical hazard in equipment connected to the mains or exposed to moisture; damage from deteriorated or leaking batteries.
- Impacts and cuts when handling heavy objects with sharp edges or irregular surfaces.
Safe use
- Check the equipment’s maximum capacity before measuring and do not exceed it. Centre and distribute the load evenly.
- Place the scale on a firm, level and clean surface; lock the castors if fitted and avoid stepping on edges or small platforms.
- Keep hands and feet clear of the crush zone. Wear gloves and safety footwear where the load warrants it.
- For dynamometers and hanging scales, use only compatible, serviceable hooks, shackles and slings. Close and secure the fittings, keep people clear of the drop zone, and do not stand beneath the load.
- Avoid twisting, impacts or swinging of the load during measurement. Wait for the reading to stabilise and, where appropriate, use tare.
- For electrical equipment, use the recommended adaptor, keep cables dry and free of strain, and disconnect before cleaning.
- Do not use the equipment if it shows impact damage, cracks, deformed hooks, loose or damaged levelling feet, a cracked or broken display, or damaged cables.
Storage and maintenance
- Store in a dry, clean place protected from dust, moisture and impacts. Do not stack heavy objects on top of the equipment.
- Clean with a soft, slightly damp cloth and then dry. Avoid water jets, abrasive products and harsh solvents.
- Periodically inspect platforms, levelling feet, fasteners, hooks, rings, shackles and cables. Replace worn or deformed components.
- Check battery condition. Charge as instructed and remove the batteries if the equipment will not be used for prolonged periods.
- Verify accuracy and recalibrate when readings are unstable, after impacts or relocation, or as recommended by the manufacturer.
- For transport, use its case or protective padding and avoid hanging the equipment by the cable or indicator.
Restrictions of use
- Do not use this equipment to lift or suspend people or animals.
- Do not use the product beyond its rated capacity or in extreme temperature or humidity conditions that could affect its operation.
- Do not use in potentially explosive atmospheres, with open flames or combustible dust unless explicitly indicated by the manufacturer as suitable.
- Do not modify, drill or open the enclosure. Do not tamper with the sensor or the attachment systems.
- Keep out of reach of children and persons unfamiliar with its use. Take extra care when working with suspended loads.
- Do not use the scale or the dynamometer as a support, step or permanent anchorage point.
