Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- Inaccurate readings due to poor placement, impacts, sensor dirt or lack of stabilisation/calibration, which may lead to inappropriate ventilation.
- Confusion with carbon monoxide (CO) detectors: a CO2 meter does not detect CO or gas leaks.
- Electrical hazard or overheating when using unsuitable, damaged or wet adaptors or cables.
- Batteries with possible leakage, swelling or overheating due to incorrect use, charging or storage.
- Sensor deterioration due to exposure to high humidity, condensation, dust, aerosols or chemicals.
- Impacts or drops when wall-mounting or handling at height; the unit may fall onto people or objects.
- Small parts and packaging pose a choking hazard to children and pets.
Safe use
- Read the manufacturer's instructions before first use and place the meter on a stable surface or mount it with the appropriate fixing.
- Position it according to the manufacturer's guidance; in general, avoid direct sunlight, heat sources, air outlets, open doors/windows and localised sources of CO2 (people in very close proximity, candles).
- Power it only with the specified adaptor or cable; do not plug or unplug with wet hands and avoid cables running across walkways.
- Allow the unit to stabilise after switching it on or moving it before interpreting readings.
- Do not obstruct the sensor inlets or cover the device.
- Avoid spraying aerosols or cleaners near the sensor to prevent contamination.
- Perform calibrations or checks only if recommended by the manufacturer, and confirm anomalous readings before taking action.
- Configure alarms prudently and do not make critical decisions based on a single measurement.
Storage and maintenance
- Store the meter in a dry, clean, well-ventilated place, away from extreme temperatures and direct sunlight.
- Avoid condensation: if moving from a cold to a warm environment, allow it to acclimatise before switching on.
- Clean the exterior with a soft, dry cloth; do not use solvents, alcohol or apply water directly.
- Periodically check the cable and adaptor; if damaged, stop using them and replace with suitable ones specified by the manufacturer.
- Replace the batteries when necessary; do not mix new and used batteries and remove them if the device will not be used for a prolonged period.
- If required by the model, carry out checks or recalibrations at the intervals recommended by the manufacturer.
Restrictions of use
- Primarily for indoor use (home, office, classrooms), unless expressly indicated as suitable for outdoor use.
- Do not use as a carbon monoxide (CO) detector or as an alarm for gas leaks or other hazards.
- Do not use in environments with potentially explosive atmospheres, conductive dust, corrosive vapours or very high humidity.
- Do not use as medical equipment or for diagnostic purposes.
- Keep out of reach of children; if used around children, ensure adult supervision.
- Do not use if the device shows visible damage, signs of internal moisture, a burning smell or overheating.
- Do not box in or cover the meter; it requires airflow to measure correctly.
