Usage Warnings

Light and Colour Measuring Equipment

Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Glare or eye injury from direct exposure to built-in emitters (LED, flash or UV) during measurement.
  • Trips or falls when using the equipment in dark areas, with loose cables, or while moving around looking at the screen.
  • Impacts or damage from the instrument falling from the hand, tripod or unstable surfaces.
  • Incorrect readings due to a dirty sensor, poorly fitted cap/diffuser or lack of adjustment/calibration, which may lead to inappropriate light or colour settings.
  • Risks associated with batteries: electrolyte leakage, overheating or short circuit.
  • Danger of children and pets ingesting button batteries.
  • Damage from humidity, fine dust or condensation that may affect the electronics and optics.

Safe use

  • Avoid looking directly at any light emitter on the equipment and do not point it at other people's eyes.
  • Before measuring, ensure the sensor, lens or diffuser are clean and correctly fitted; cover the emitter when not in use.
  • Hold the meter firmly and, where appropriate, use a wrist strap or a stable tripod; keep cables tidy to avoid tripping.
  • Do not use the equipment in the rain, in very humid environments or with wet hands unless the manufacturer states otherwise.
  • Avoid hot surfaces, strong vibrations and prolonged direct exposure to the sun during use; if the device overheats, stop the measurement.
  • Replace and install the batteries observing the correct polarity; do not mix new and used batteries or different types.
  • In areas with combustible dust or flammable vapours, avoid using it to prevent sparks or unwanted heating.
  • When measuring at height, near edges or traffic, prioritise your stability and visibility; do not move around while looking at the screen.

Storage and maintenance

  • Store the meter clean, dry and in its case to protect the optics; fit protective caps or covers.
  • Keep the equipment in a cool, ventilated place, away from sources of heat, extreme cold and direct sunlight (for example, inside a car in the sun).
  • After abrupt temperature changes, allow it to acclimatise before use to prevent condensation on the optics.
  • Clean lenses and diffusers with a soft microfibre cloth; avoid solvents, direct compressed air or abrasive products.
  • Periodically check the condition of cables, connectors, battery compartments and seals; do not use the equipment if the casing is damaged.
  • Remove the batteries if you will not use the meter for an extended period; store them in their packaging and recycle used ones.
  • Carry out the adjustments or accuracy checks recommended by the manufacturer at reasonable intervals to maintain reliable readings.

Restrictions on use

  • Not a toy: keep the equipment and button batteries out of the reach of children; if a child uses it, ensure adult supervision.
  • Do not use the meter to look directly at the sun or other intense light sources.
  • Do not use it as a light source, a pointer, or for purposes other than measurement.
  • Do not open, modify or tamper with the interior of the equipment beyond the intended operations (e.g. battery replacement).
  • Do not use it if it has cracks, a broken lens/diffuser, stuck buttons, a burning smell or a swollen battery.
  • Do not rely on its readings for critical safety decisions without additional verification procedures.
  • Do not use it while driving, climbing stairs or performing tasks that require your full attention.
