Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- Glare or eye discomfort if you look directly at the device’s light source.
- Minor electrical and overheating risk when charging or using damaged or faulty batteries and chargers.
- Scratching or damage to finishes if the instrument is dragged, excessive pressure is applied, or there are particles on the surface or on the optical window.
- Breakage of calibration plates/standards (often glass or ceramic), with possible cuts from sharp edges.
- Incorrect measurements due to dirt, fingerprints, moisture on the surface, vibrations or strong ambient light, which may lead to incorrect work decisions.
- Equipment drops and trips caused by cables or straps during use.
- Unnecessary exposure to solvent vapours when measuring freshly applied paints or coatings in poorly ventilated spaces.
Safe use
- Do not point the glossmeter light towards the eyes or view it through magnifiers or optics. Aim the equipment only at the surface to be measured.
- Before measuring, gently clean the area and the optical window with a soft, lint-free cloth. Avoid dust or debris that could scratch.
- Place the instrument on flat, dry and stable surfaces. Avoid pressing or dragging the equipment across the finish.
- Calibrate on a clean, stable surface, handling the calibration plate by the edges and without touching its reference surface.
- Use compatible, undamaged chargers and cables. Do not charge or use the equipment with wet hands or in very humid environments.
- Secure and tidy cables to avoid snags and falls. Keep the work area tidy.
- Work in well-ventilated areas when solvents or fresh paints are present, and avoid measuring on wet or tacky surfaces.
Storage and maintenance
- Store the glossmeter and calibration plates in its case, protected from impacts, dust and direct sunlight.
- Clean the optical window and the calibration plate with a microfibre cloth. Do not use abrasives or strong solvents.
- Regularly inspect the housing, optical window, calibration plate, cables and connectors. If they are damaged, do not use the equipment.
- Avoid extreme temperatures and high humidity. Do not leave the equipment inside a vehicle in the sun or in places with condensation.
- Charge the battery periodically if the equipment will be unused for an extended period. Remove it from service if you observe swelling, leakage or unusual odour.
- If it gets wet, switch it off and allow it to dry completely before switching it on or charging it.
Usage restrictions
- Not a toy. Keep out of reach of children and pets. For use only by people familiar with its operation.
- Do not open, modify or attempt to repair the equipment or the battery. Do not puncture or expose the battery to heat.
- Do not use the glossmeter in atmospheres with flammable vapours or combustible dust, unless the model explicitly states it is suitable for such use.
- Do not measure on skin, eyes, animals or on high-temperature, tacky or surfaces with active solvents.
- Do not use the device if the optical window or the calibration plate are scratched, cracked or dirty, or if the equipment has suffered a severe fall or impact.
- Do not use the glossmeter as a support, lever or pressing tool.
