Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Slips and falls if towels are left on the floor, especially on wet surfaces.
  • Risk of suffocation or restricted breathing in babies and children if their face is covered or they are wrapped without supervision.
  • Burns or fire risk if placed on radiators, stoves, candles or other heat sources.
  • Skin irritation, unpleasant odour and mould growth due to trapped moisture or insufficient drying.
  • Transmission of germs when sharing towels between people.
  • Pulling and objects falling if very wet towels are hung from unstable fixtures.

Safe use

  • Wash the towel before first use and always follow the care label instructions.
  • Use one towel per person and change it regularly; avoid sharing.
  • After each use, hang it up fully spread out to promote complete drying; avoid leaving it on the floor or in a crumpled heap.
  • Keep towels away from flames, radiators, stoves and other heat sources.
  • For babies and children, dry them under supervision and do not cover the face; remove the towel as soon as you finish.
  • If loose threads appear, cut them with scissors; do not pull them to avoid tearing.
  • Do not use the towel to handle hot utensils or to wipe up chemicals.
  • If you have sensitive skin, rinse thoroughly to remove detergent residues and avoid strong fragrances.

Storage and maintenance

  • Air-dry or tumble-dry completely according to the label before storing.
  • Store in a dry, well-ventilated place; avoid damp cupboards or bathrooms without ventilation.
  • Wash periodically at the recommended temperature and rinse well to remove residues.
  • Avoid strong bleaches and softeners unless indicated on the label, as they can damage the fibres.
  • Wash new or brightly coloured towels separately the first few times to minimise colour transfer.
  • Check for signs of mould, persistent unpleasant odour or deterioration; replace the towel if it does not improve after washing.
  • Keep towels away from hair dyes and concentrated chemicals that may stain or damage the fabric.

Restrictions on use

  • Do not use as a securing device, harness, rope or heat protection.
  • Do not cover cots, prams or pushchairs, or babies' faces, with towels.
  • Do not allow children to run or play with towels around their neck or head without supervision.
  • Do not hang very wet towels on adhesive hooks or loose supports that may come off.
  • Do not use if there is visible mould or a persistent bad odour; wash or dispose of as appropriate.
  • Do not iron or dry at a high temperature if the label advises against it.
