Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Ball impacts and collisions between players that can cause bruises, sprains and injuries to fingers, wrists and shoulders.
  • Falls due to slippery surfaces, resin residue or obstacles on the court.
  • Collisions with goalposts and crossbars.
  • Tipping or movement of poorly anchored goals.
  • Entrapments and pinches in nets, clips or hinges of folding goals.
  • Skin or eye irritation from adhesive resins and cleaning products.
  • Sudden rupture of balls or needles due to improper inflation.

Safe use

  • Warm up and stretch before playing; use protective gear appropriate to your level (knee pads, elbow pads, wrist supports, optional mouthguard).
  • Wear clean, non-marking court shoes with good traction.
  • Inspect the court and remove liquids, dust, resin residue or loose objects before starting.
  • Ensure goals are correctly anchored or weighted; check their stability periodically.
  • Inspect nets, fixings and screws; stop activity if you detect looseness or breakages.
  • Inflate balls only to the pressure specified by the manufacturer using the appropriate needle; keep hands away from the valve while inflating.
  • Limit the use of resin to what is essential and only in permitted areas; avoid contact with eyes and clean hands and equipment after use.
  • Keep a safe distance when throwing and warn before powerful shots; do not aim at the head.
  • Stay hydrated and take breaks; if you feel pain or dizziness, stop the activity.

Storage and maintenance

  • Store balls away from heat sources, high humidity and direct sunlight; maintain a storage pressure within the recommended range.
  • Clean balls and soles with a slightly damp cloth to remove resin and dust; avoid harsh solvents.
  • Air-dry textile kit and protective gear after each use to prevent mould and bad odours.
  • Regularly check ball seams, the condition of nets and cordage; replace if worn or broken.
  • Check and tighten goal fixings; protect or cover floor anchors when not in use.
  • Store folding goals with the fastenings secured and in a stable place; prevent access by children.
  • Keep resins and cleaners in their original containers, tightly closed and in a ventilated place, out of the reach of children and away from ignition sources.
  • Store pumps, needles and small parts in cases or boxes to avoid punctures and loss.

Restrictions of use

  • Do not climb or hang from goals or nets; do not perform acrobatics on the crossbar.
  • Do not use unstable, damaged or unanchored/unweighted goals.
  • Do not use balls that are visibly damaged, underinflated or overinflated.
  • Do not apply resins that are not specific to handball nor use cleaners in spaces without adequate ventilation.
  • Do not play on wet, uneven or unsuitable surfaces.
  • Do not wear jewellery, watches or sharp objects while playing.
  • Do not allow the use of goals, inflation pumps or resins by children without adult supervision.
  • Do not continue the activity in case of acute pain, a head impact or blurred vision.
