Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- Water leaks due to poor sealing, damaged threads or incompatible connections, with possible flooding and damage to the property.
- Scalds from hot water when opening or closing abruptly or handling without care.
- Water hammer and overpressure if operated abruptly, potentially damaging pipework, flexible hoses and taps and fittings.
- Breakage due to over-tightening with unsuitable tools, causing cracks or loss of seal.
- Blockages from limescale or debris that hinder turning and may cause drips.
- Minor cuts or pinches when handling metal parts and tools in confined spaces.
Safe use
- Shut off the main stopcock and relieve system pressure before installing, replacing or handling.
- Check dimensions and connection type with the installation and the tap/flexible hose to avoid forcing or unsuitable adaptors.
- Use a suitable thread sealing method (e.g., PTFE tape) following the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Thread by hand first and tighten with an appropriate tool, protecting finishes and avoiding over-tightening.
- Position the outlet and handle so they are accessible and without strain on the flexible hose or pipework.
- Turn on the supply slowly and check for leaks; run a dry piece of paper over the joints to detect moisture.
- Operate the valve from time to time to prevent seizing due to limescale or lack of use.
- Avoid contact with aggressive chemicals (strippers, solvents) that may damage seals and finishes.
- If the valve indicates a flow direction, observe it to ensure correct operation.
Storage and maintenance
- Store parts in a clean, dry place, protected from impacts; keep caps or protectors on the threads until installation.
- Before assembly, clean the threads and remove particles; briefly flush the pipe to expel dirt.
- Periodically check for leaks, corrosion or limescale build-up; clean with a soft cloth and non-abrasive products.
- Replace seals or filters if they are worn or dirty, where fitted.
- If the property will be unoccupied for a time, close the valves; when reopening, do so gradually and check the joints.
Restrictions of use
- Do not use these valves and stopcocks with gases or fluids other than domestic water.
- Do not install concealed without an access panel that allows quick shut-off and maintenance.
- Do not modify the parts or use incompatible components; replace the product if it shows cracks, stripped threads or corrosion.
- Do not use in systems with pressure or temperature outside the range specified by the manufacturer.
- Do not allow handling by minors; supervise its use in the presence of children.
- If you lack plumbing experience, consider having it installed by qualified personnel.
- If the handle does not turn smoothly or sticks, do not force it: repair or replace before use.
