Usage Warnings

Irrigation Pipes

Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Breaks or disconnections due to excessive pressure or water hammer, with sudden ejection of water.
  • Cuts and punctures when cutting the pipe or handling connectors and clamps.
  • Trips and falls due to loose sections across walkways.
  • Deterioration from prolonged sun exposure, sudden temperature changes or abrasion against sharp edges, which may cause cracks and leaks.
  • Freezing of water inside, causing cracks and subsequent leaks.
  • Leaks leading to pooling, slips and possible seepage through terraces or walls.
  • Backflow into the household system if a non-return valve is not used on mains connections.
  • Material damage from contact with oils, solvents or highly concentrated fertilisers.
  • Bites from pets or rodents that puncture the pipe.
  • Accidental puncturing of other services or cables when digging to install buried pipes.

Safe use

  • Ensure the diameter, connectors and the manufacturer’s recommended working pressure are compatible with your irrigation system.
  • Plan the routing to avoid walkways; secure the pipe or protect it at crossings to prevent trips and damage.
  • Always cut on a stable surface, using the appropriate tool and wearing gloves and eye protection.
  • Assemble with compatible connectors in good condition; avoid forcing joints and check they are secure.
  • Before handling, shut off the water and depressurise the line; open valves slowly to reduce water hammer.
  • On domestic mains connections, use a non-return valve to prevent backflow.
  • Avoid very tight bends, twisting and being run over by vehicles or machinery; use guides or protectors where necessary.
  • Protect the pipe from direct sunlight if the material is not designed for it; properly covering or burying it helps extend its service life.
  • On terraces, check drains and seals before prolonged watering to prevent leaks.
  • Before excavating, verify the location of other services or cables to avoid damaging them.

Storage and maintenance

  • Store the pipe clean, dry and in the shade, coiled with a wide radius and without tension or weight on top.
  • Avoid heat sources and continuous exposure to UV rays when not in use.
  • Flush the system periodically to remove sediment and algae; rinse before first use.
  • Regularly check for cracks, hardening, swelling or leaks in sections and joints; replace damaged parts.
  • Drain the system and disconnect sensitive components before frosts.
  • Keep the ends capped during storage to prevent the ingress of dirt and insects.
  • Avoid prolonged contact with solvents, oils or aggressive chemicals that could degrade the material.
  • Protect stored pipes from rodents and pet bites.

Usage restrictions

  • Do not use these pipes for drinking water or food-related applications unless the product explicitly states so.
  • Do not connect them to hot-water circuits, boilers, or use them with high-temperature liquids.
  • Do not exceed the manufacturer’s recommended working pressure, nor use them for applications other than irrigation.
  • Do not install them through walls or roofs without adequate protection to prevent chafing and leaks.
  • Do not use concentrated chemicals or aggressive fertilisers if the pipe is not compatible with them.
  • Do not hang pipes over walkways without secure fastening, nor leave them loose where they could cause falls.
  • Keep the system out of reach of young children and supervise the irrigation area when children or pets are present.
  • Avoid modifying the pipe with heat, open flames or makeshift drilling; always use purpose-made accessories.
