Safety warnings and precautions
Main hazards
- Cuts and punctures from the saw teeth during handling or when changing the accessory.
- Sudden snagging (kickback) if the saw binds, potentially causing the tool to twist violently.
- Ejection of chips, dust and the plug or “slug” of extracted material.
- Overheating of the accessory and the work surface, with risk of burns and material deterioration.
- Noise and vibration that may cause fatigue or loss of control.
- Accidental drilling into concealed cables or pipes when working in walls, floors or ceilings.
Safe use
- Check compatibility between the hole saw, the chuck/arbor and the material to be cut; assemble the parts firmly and according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Disconnect the tool from the mains or remove the battery before fitting, adjusting or changing the saw.
- Secure the workpiece with clamps or a bench; do not hold it by hand. Maintain a stable stance and use the auxiliary handle if the tool is equipped with one.
- Ensure the pilot drill or guide is firmly fixed and centred. Verify that the saw rotates freely and without wobble before starting.
- Set a speed suitable for the material and disable hammer action unless the saw is specifically designed for that mode.
- Start the cut at low speed, perpendicular to the surface, and increase progressively without forcing. Withdraw the saw at intervals to clear chips and dissipate heat; use appropriate lubrication on metals where applicable.
- Keep hands, hair, loose clothing and cords away from rotating parts. Do not wear loose gloves during cutting; use them only for handling when the tool is stopped.
- Wear eye protection, hearing protection and an appropriate filtering respirator when fine dust or chips are generated.
- Wait for a complete stop before touching the saw or removing the plug from the hole. If the saw includes an ejector or pins, use them to remove the slug without forcing.
- Before drilling walls or ceilings, check for the possible presence of hidden services with a suitable detector.
Storage and maintenance
- Inspect before each use: dull or broken teeth, cracks, deformation and thread wear. Replace the accessory if damaged.
- Clean off resins, dust and chips after use. Lightly apply protective oil to prevent corrosion when necessary.
- Store hole saws with tooth guards or in cases, in a dry place and out of the reach of children.
- Keep associated accessories (arbors and pilot drills) in good condition; replace if there is play or excessive wear.
- Do not attempt to straighten, weld, sharpen or modify the saw unless expressly permitted by the manufacturer; when in doubt, replace with a new one.
Restrictions on use
- Not to be used by minors. Requires skill and constant attention.
- Do not use if the power tool is damaged, lacks speed control or is not compatible with the saw diameter.
- Do not exceed the maximum speed indicated for the accessory or apply lateral force; the saw is designed to cut axially.
- Do not reverse the direction of rotation during cutting or use hammer mode except on saws expressly suitable for it.
- Do not cut materials for which the saw is not designed (for example, concrete, ceramics or hardened metals) unless specified for the model.
- Do not work on unstable surfaces, at height without securing the tool, or in environments with flammable dust or vapours.
