Main hazards
- Ejection of sparks, swarf and abrasive particles that can cause eye injuries and cuts.
- Entrapment of hands, clothing or hair in rotating parts, grinding wheels, discs or belts.
- Breakage of grinding wheels or tearing of belts, ejecting fragments at high speed.
- Burns caused by the workpiece heating up due to friction.
- Inhalation of fine dust and particles, with possible respiratory irritation.
- Exposure to noise and vibrations over prolonged periods.
- Electrical hazard from damaged cables, plugs or switches.
- Fire hazard from sparks near flammable materials or dust build-up.
Safe use
- Read and follow the manufacturer’s instructions before first use and whenever changing an accessory.
- Always wear full eye protection; add hearing protection and a dust mask appropriate to the material being worked. Wear close-fitting clothing and non-slip footwear.
- Check that grinding wheels, discs and belts are compatible with the machine, correctly fitted and in good condition.
- Keep guards, tool rests and spark guards installed and properly adjusted. Do not remove them while working.
- Place the machine on a stable, level base. Keep the work area clean, well-lit and free of obstructions.
- Connect and use dust collection or extraction systems where possible. Direct sparks away from people and combustible materials.
- Allow the machine to reach a steady speed before presenting the workpiece. Hold firmly, use guides or supports for small pieces, and do not force the material against the abrasive.
- Stay out of the direct line of the grinding wheel. Stop work if you notice vibration, unusual noises or overheating.
- Disconnect from the mains and wait for a complete stop before changing accessories, adjusting the machine or cleaning the area.
Storage and maintenance
- Clean the machine regularly to prevent the build-up of dust and debris. Empty collection bins or bags as required.
- Store the equipment in a dry, ventilated place. Protect grinding wheels, discs and belts from impacts, moisture and oils.
- Periodically inspect cables, plugs, switches, casing and guards. Replace any damaged components.
- Check the condition of grinding wheels and the tension and alignment of belts. Replace accessories with cracks, tears, uneven wear or unusual vibration.
- Ensure that grilles and ventilation inlets are free from obstructions.
- Carry out adjustments, cleaning and basic lubrication in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Use recommended spare parts and accessories.
- Check and re-tighten screws, anchors and mounting brackets regularly.
- Disconnect from the mains when not in use for prolonged periods or before any work is carried out.
Restrictions on use
- Not suitable for minors. Keep children, pets and bystanders away from the work area.
- Do not use the machine if you are tired or under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medicines that reduce alertness.
- Do not operate in damp environments, in the rain or near flammable vapours, gases or materials, nor with combustible dust in suspension.
- Do not use accessories that are damaged, unsuitable or not specified by the manufacturer. Do not exceed the equipment’s stated operating limits.
- Do not bypass or modify guards or safety systems. Do not use abrasive surfaces for purposes not intended.
- Do not sand or grind materials that may release toxic dust without specific control measures appropriate to the material.
- Do not wear loose clothing, jewellery or unrestrained hair that could get caught in moving parts.
