Usage Warnings
Water Timers and Irrigation Controllers
Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- Electric shock or short circuits in mains-powered models due to moisture, splashes or damaged cables.
- Waterlogging or flooding due to incorrect scheduling, valves failing to close, or loose connections.
- Burst pipes or flexible hoses caused by overpressure, water hammer, or frost.
- Damage to the equipment due to water ingress into non-sealed enclosures or prolonged exposure to sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Leaks at joints and seals that may cause water damage.
- Slips on wet surfaces near the irrigation area.
- Battery leakage or poor contact due to depleted or incorrectly fitted batteries (battery-powered models).
- Tripping over cables or hoses placed near the controller.
Safe use
- Read the manufacturer's instructions and check compatibility with water pressure, valves and power supply before installation.
- Install the unit on a firm surface, sheltered from direct rain and splashes according to its protection rating; use suitable boxes or covers where appropriate.
- Keep electrical connections dry; do not handle with wet hands, and disconnect from the mains before installing or making adjustments.
- Connect fittings and hoses without forcing; check for leaks with a short, supervised test.
- Schedule staggered watering and adjust the duration to avoid waterlogging and unnecessary watering.
- Avoid hoses and cables crossing walkways or being under tension; secure any loose components.
- If the system allows, consider using compatible sensors (rain, moisture or flow) to optimise irrigation.
- Shut off the water supply during extended absences or when work is carried out on the irrigation system.
Storage and maintenance
- Periodically check joints, seals, flexible hoses, valves, and the condition of cables and connectors.
- Clean the housing with a dry or slightly damp cloth; avoid solvents and high-pressure water jets.
- Update the schedule according to the season and check that it is retained after power cuts.
- Replace the batteries when the level is low and remove them if it will not be used for a prolonged period; check the correct polarity.
- Protect the system from frost: drain lines and shelter the controller if it is not designed to remain outdoors in winter.
- Reduce direct, prolonged exposure to the sun if the unit is not intended for it, positioning it in a shaded, well-ventilated area.
- After any intervention, open the water supply gradually and verify that the valves open and close correctly.
Restrictions on use
- Intended for irrigation with clean, cold water; do not use hot or saline water, water containing sand, fertilisers or chemicals unless expressly specified by the manufacturer.
- Do not immerse the unit or expose it to high-pressure cleaning jets.
- Do not use the controller with pressures or flow rates outside the range specified by the manufacturer, or in incompatible systems.
- Do not open, modify or replace internal components or wiring with parts not specified by the manufacturer.
- Do not use the product if it shows cracks, leaks, frayed wires or signs of overheating; stop using it until the issue has been resolved.
- Keep the unit out of the reach of children; for use by adults or under supervision.
- Avoid installing in areas without drainage where a possible leak could cause damage.
