Warnings and safety precautions
Key risks
- Electric shock during installation or when handling damaged connections.
- Overheating and fire caused by unsuitable bulbs, loose connections, or covered bases without ventilation.
- Burns from metal or ceramic surfaces near high-temperature bulbs.
- Falls due to poor ceiling or wall fixing, and tipping of table or floor bases.
- Breakage of shades or diffusers if the mount fails or suffers impacts.
- Damage due to moisture ingress in products not designed for damp areas or outdoor use.
- Pinching or minor cuts when assembling parts, screws and sharp edges.
- Trip hazards due to poorly routed cable runs.
Safe use
- Switch off the power or unplug before installing, adjusting or replacing bulbs and accessories.
- Check the compatibility of the mount with the socket type, the bulb's maximum wattage, and the weight of the shade and bulb assembly.
- Follow the manufacturer's instructions and use suitable screws and fixings for the mounting surface material.
- Ensure a firm, level fixing; do not hang the light or its mount from the cable.
- Keep the area clear of flammable materials and do not cover the base or the lampholder to prevent heat build-up.
- If the product requires connection to the fixed electrical installation, installation must be carried out by qualified personnel.
- In bathrooms, kitchens or outdoors, use only products rated for damp environments and avoid splashes on the connections.
- Use dimmers, transformers or drivers/controllers compatible with the lamp type; if you notice buzzing, flickering or abnormal heat, switch off and check the installation.
- Route cabling without tension or crushing and allow slack at joints or moving areas.
Storage and maintenance
- Store bases and mounts in a dry, clean place away from sources of heat or moisture.
- Protect terminals and contacts from dust; keep screws and small parts in labelled bags.
- Do not place weight on threads, lampholders or trims to avoid deformation.
- Clean with a dry or slightly damp cloth and avoid abrasive products or liquids dripping into electrical parts.
- Check periodically for looseness, cracks, heat discolouration, pinched cables or a burning smell; rectify with the power switched off.
- Replace damaged or worn parts immediately; do not repair with tape or makeshift splices.
- For outdoor-rated installations, check the condition of seals and for signs of corrosion, and renew sealants if necessary.
Restrictions of use
- Do not exceed the stated maximum wattage or the recommended weight for shades and bulbs.
- Do not use in damp areas or outdoors if the product is not designed for it.
- Do not modify drilled holes, wiring or earthing, nor remove safety components from the mount or base.
- Do not cover the lampholder with fabrics, papers or other materials that impede heat dissipation.
- Do not use the product if it shows cracks, loose parts, sparks, smoke or excessive heat; unplug immediately.
- Do not place bases on unstable, soft or inclined surfaces that make tipping more likely.
- Keep small parts out of reach of children and pets, and avoid handling without supervision.
- Avoid daisy-chaining adaptors or overloading multi-way extension leads with several high-power devices.
