Safety warnings and precautions
Key risks
- Falls and knocks during work at height when using ladders or platforms.
- Detachment of mouldings due to inadequate fixing or weak substrates.
- Cuts and splinters when cutting or handling the pieces; risk of trapping at joints or corners.
- Eye and respiratory irritation from dust and particles generated during cutting or sanding.
- Inhalation of vapours from adhesives, sealants or paints during installation or repainting.
- Damage to hidden electrical cables, light fittings or pipework when drilling or nailing into the ceiling.
- Warping or deterioration due to constant humidity or excessive heat; possible risk if installed near sources of intense heat.
- Unintentional obstruction of smoke detectors, sprinklers or ventilation grilles.
Safe use
- Work at height with a stable ladder or a suitable platform; do not overreach and ask for assistance with long or heavy pieces.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE): gloves, safety goggles and a dust mask when cutting, sanding or handling adhesives.
- Check the substrate: it must be clean, dry, sound and free of dust or grease before fixing the moulding.
- Dry-fit the pieces and mark reference lines to avoid incorrect cuts or joints.
- Before drilling, check for any hidden cables or pipework; isolate the power if working near light fittings.
- Apply the adhesive or the fixing system recommended for the moulding material and the type of ceiling; observe drying and curing times.
- Ventilate the room well when using adhesives, sealants or paints and avoid flames or sparks if stated on the product.
- Keep a safe distance from spotlights, heaters or other heat sources and do not hang items from the mouldings.
Storage and maintenance
- Store the mouldings in a dry, ventilated area and in a horizontal position to prevent warping.
- Protect them from impacts, crushing, moisture and direct sunlight or intense heat.
- Acclimatise the pieces to the room (temperature and humidity) a few hours before installation.
- Keep adhesives and sealants tightly closed, upright and away from heat sources.
- Clean with a soft, slightly damp cloth; avoid abrasive products or harsh solvents.
- In damp areas, ensure good ventilation and check periodically for cracks, mould or detachment.
- Carry out periodic checks of joints and fixing points; repair or reinforce if you detect any looseness.
- If painting the mouldings, observe curing times before exposing them to moisture or cleaning.
Restrictions on use
- Ceiling mouldings are decorative: they are not designed to bear loads or to hang objects from.
- Do not install outdoors or in areas with continuous humidity unless expressly indicated by the product.
- Do not place the mouldings in direct contact with spotlights, fireplaces, stoves or other sources of intense heat.
- Do not cover or obstruct smoke detectors, sprinklers, light fittings, ventilation grilles or access panels.
- Do not use pieces that are damaged, warped or cracked; discard them.
- Do not drill or cut the ceiling without first checking for hidden services.
- Keep children and pets away from the work area during installation and while adhesives or paints are drying.
- Do not proceed if you do not have stable means to work at height or if the substrate is unsound.
