Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- Electric shock when handling live wiring.
- Overheating due to lack of ventilation, use of unsuitable lamps or wattage, or covering the downlight; potential fire hazard.
- Burns from contact with parts that may become hot during use.
- Ingress of dust or moisture that can cause failures, corrosion or short circuits.
- Cuts or pinching from edges of the bezel or retaining springs.
- Downlight falling if the fixings are not properly secured, with risk of personal injury and property damage.
- Glare and eye strain from looking directly at the light source.
- Damage to the ceiling or to concealed services (cables or pipes) when cutting the hole.
- Flicker, buzzing or premature failure due to incompatible dimmers or power supplies.
- Risk of falling when working at height if the ladder or surface is not stable.
Safe use
- Isolate the power at the consumer unit before installing, replacing or handling the downlight.
- Allow the downlight to cool before touching it or removing the lamp.
- Verify the cut-out dimensions and available depth; ensure the ceiling is suitable for recessed installation and allow space for ventilation.
- Use compatible light sources, transformers and dimmers, respecting the type and maximum wattage specified by the product manufacturer.
- In damp or splash zones, use models with adequate protection against moisture and ensure seals and closures are properly seated.
- Secure the clips and bezel correctly; check with a gentle pull that the assembly is firm before closing the ceiling or continuing the work.
- Avoid covering the downlight or its gear with thermal insulation or other materials unless the product is specifically rated for it.
- Before drilling, locate any concealed cables or pipes; use eye protection and a dust mask where appropriate.
- Do not look directly at illuminated LEDs at close range.
Storage and maintenance
- Store the downlights in a dry, ventilated place, protected from moisture, dust and heat sources.
- Avoid placing weight on bezels, diffusers and springs to prevent deformation.
- Clean with a soft, dry cloth; switch off the power before cleaning and avoid abrasive products or liquids that could penetrate the unit.
- Periodically check the tightness of fixings and the condition of cables and diffusers; replace the product if you notice cracks, discolouration, a burning smell, crackling noises or persistent flicker.
- Keep ventilation slots or holes free of dust and avoid painting or sealing the bezel in a way that impedes heat dissipation.
- Replace lamps and components only with compatible spares and in accordance with the product instructions.
Restrictions on use
- Do not install in very narrow or enclosed ceilings without the minimum ventilation clearance recommended by the manufacturer.
- Do not install in showers, baths or direct splash zones unless the model is specifically designed for it.
- Do not use with incompatible dimmers or power supplies.
- Do not cover with insulating materials, fabrics or decorative elements unless expressly permitted by the product.
- Do not modify the downlight, drill its body or replace components with non-specified parts.
- Do not use if the wiring is damaged, parts are missing or the fixings are deformed.
- Not suitable for environments with flammable vapours, combustible dust or intense vibration unless expressly indicated by the manufacturer.
- Children must not handle or install luminaires; keep them out of reach during installation and maintenance.
- Do not use outdoors without specific weatherproof protection.
