Work Overalls
Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- Snagging on moving parts of machinery due to loose sleeves, legs, drawcords or fastenings.
- Trips or falls from wearing an incorrect size or excessively long hems.
- Reduced visibility in traffic or low-light environments if the coverall is not high-visibility.
- Overheating, dehydration or heat discomfort; excessive cooling if the garment is wet in cold environments.
- Skin irritation or chafing due to prolonged use, sweat or accumulated dirt.
- Contamination of the skin or underwear if the coverall is soaked with oils, dust or chemicals.
- Risk of burns from sparks or spatter if the fabric is not designed for that job.
- Restricted mobility or tightness when bending, climbing stairs or using a harness if it does not fit correctly.
- Increased flammability if the garment is stained with solvents, fuels or other flammable liquids.
Safe use
- Choose the correct size and ensure you can move freely without the hems dragging.
- Inspect before each use: seams, fastenings, zips, wear areas and, where applicable, reflective elements.
- Close and secure all fastenings; tuck away drawcords and adjust cuffs and hems to reduce snagging.
- Empty pockets of sharp objects and use appropriate tool holders.
- Keep the garment clear of moving parts; avoid loose clothing when working with machinery.
- Select a model appropriate to the risk (for example, for sparks, chemicals or low visibility) and pair it with the required PPE.
- Change the coverall if it is wet, heavily soiled or contaminated with oils or other potentially hazardous substances.
- If snagging occurs, stop the machine before attempting to free yourself; avoid sudden tugs.
- Check compatibility with other PPE (harness, belts, knee pads) so they do not conceal adjustments or create hazardous folds.
- In hot environments, take breaks and stay hydrated; in cold conditions, add inner layers if the model allows.
Storage and maintenance
- Wash according to the manufacturer's instructions and separate garments that are very dirty or potentially contaminated.
- Avoid bleaches or fabric softeners unless expressly indicated, as they may alter the fabric's performance.
- Allow to dry completely before storing; prioritise air drying, away from direct heat sources.
- Store in a clean, dry, ventilated place, protected from direct sunlight, moisture and dust.
- Check after washing for: tears, abrasion, loose seams, damaged fastenings or detached reflective elements.
- Repair only with appropriate materials and techniques; if the damage affects fit or safety, withdraw the garment from service.
- Segregate and label coveralls that have been in contact with hazardous substances until properly decontaminated.
- Replace the garment when the fabric thins, loses fit or shows recurrent damage.
Restrictions on use
- On its own it does not provide protection against flames, intense heat, cuts, chemicals, electricity or biological agents, unless the model specifically states otherwise.
- Do not use near machinery with moving parts unless it is correctly fitted and fully fastened.
- Do not wear incorrect sizes or allow the hems to drag.
- Do not modify the garment (cut, add or remove elements, apply heat for logos) if this could compromise its integrity or visibility.
- Do not use if it has tears, faulty zips, open seams or detached elements.
- Do not use as a substitute for high-visibility garments when being clearly seen is required.
- Do not approach ignition sources if the coverall is impregnated with oils, fuels or solvents.
- Do not share for tasks with a risk of cross-contamination without adequate cleaning.
- Do not use for work at height, welding, chemical or electrical tasks unless the product is expressly designed for it.
