Main risks

• Flying particles and dust that can injure eyes and skin.
• Inhalation of fine dust (wood, paint, metal) that may be irritating or harmful.
• Build-up of combustible dust and sparks when sanding metals: fire risk.
• Entanglement or cuts from the moving belt/disc; snagging of loose clothing, hair or jewellery.
• High noise levels and prolonged vibration that may cause discomfort or injury.
• Loss of control or kickback if the abrasive catches or during start-up/shut-down.
• Detachment of the abrasive if it is damaged or poorly secured.
• Overheating of the workpiece or accessory, with a risk of burns.
• Risk of electric shock in the presence of damaged cables, plugs or casings, or in damp environments.
• Tripping or snagging hazards from cables and hoses in the work area.

Safe use

• Use eye protection, respiratory protection appropriate to the material, and hearing protection; close-fitting gloves and snug clothing. Tie back long hair.
• Work in a ventilated area and, where possible, connect the sander to a dust extraction system or use the collection bag. Clear accumulated dust frequently.
• Secure the workpiece or surface and maintain a firm grip with both hands.
• Before starting, check the condition of the cable, battery or hose, the switch, the base plate/pad and the abrasive. Do not use the tool if you detect damage.
• Fit only compatible abrasives in good condition, correctly secured and of the size appropriate to the model.
• Start the tool away from the surface and place it down gently. Do not apply excessive pressure; let the abrasive do the work.
• Avoid extreme angles or manoeuvres that could catch the edge of the disc or belt.
• Keep cables and hoses away from the sanding area and the tool's path.
• When sanding metal, keep sawdust and combustible materials away and monitor for possible sparks.
• Disconnect from the mains, remove the battery or depressurise the air supply before changing accessories, cleaning or making adjustments.
• Take regular breaks to reduce exposure to vibration and heat.
• Ensure the power source used (mains, battery or compressed air) is suitable for the model and in good condition.

Storage and maintenance

• Allow the tool to cool after use. Clear dust from ducts and surfaces and empty the bag/collection container regularly; do not allow dust to accumulate near sources of ignition.
• Store the sander in a dry, clean and stable place, out of the reach of children.
• Protect the cable, hose or battery; avoid impacts, twisting and winding under tension.
• Inspect and replace worn abrasives, and damaged plates and pads. Check that fastenings are secure.
• For battery models, use compatible chargers and avoid extreme temperatures or moisture.
• For pneumatic models, check connections and hoses; if specified by the manufacturer, lubricate according to their instructions.
• Do not use aggressive solvents for cleaning; use a slightly damp cloth.
• If you notice unusual noises, vibration or sparks, stop use and inspect the equipment before operating again.

Restrictions on use

• Do not use the sander in damp environments, in the rain or near flammable liquids, unless the product explicitly permits it.
• Do not work in atmospheres with explosive dust or gases.
• Avoid sanding materials that may contain hazardous substances (e.g., old lead-based paints or asbestos) without specialised measures; if in doubt, do not carry out that task.
• Do not use accessories that are incompatible, damaged or larger than specified for the tool.
• Do not tamper with or disable guards or safety switches.
• Do not carry the tool by the cable or hose, and do not leave it running unattended.
• Do not use the sander for cutting or grinding if it is not designed for this, nor as a polisher without the appropriate accessories.
• Do not work on surfaces with live electrical cables, pressurised pipes or fuel tanks.
• Limit periods of continuous use and stop if you feel tingling, numbness or excessive heat in hands or arms.
• Keep the tool out of the reach of children and people unfamiliar with its operation; inexperienced users should be closely supervised.
