Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- Cuts and punctures from sharp edges, stakes, connectors or fixings.
- Trips and falls if parts protrude above the ground or become displaced by frost, roots or settlement.
- Hand trapping and impacts during driving in, cutting or bending the edging.
- Injuries from handling sleepers and heavy bundles.
- Splinters in wood, burrs on metal, or brittle breakage of plastics in severe cold.
- Damage to buried services (irrigation, drainage, cables) when driving in stakes or anchors.
- Interference with or damage to lawnmowers/robot mowers due to rigid edges or exposed fixings.
- Skin irritation or staining from prolonged contact with certain wood treatments.
- Mould, moss or algae on the edges that can make nearby areas slippery.
Safe use
- Plan the layout and check for the possible presence of pipes, cables and major roots before digging or driving in.
- Wear work gloves, safety glasses and closed-toe footwear; ask for help to move heavy components.
- Use suitable tools in good condition, using controlled blows to avoid rebound or deflection.
- Set the edging flush with the ground in areas of foot traffic and avoid visible sharp edges or points at ends and joints.
- Anchor and join only with accessories compatible with the material; do not force bends that could crack the product.
- Finish the ends with caps or bevels where the product allows to reduce snag points.
- Check the clearance for the lawnmower or robot mower before permanently fixing the installation.
- Carefully remove metal burrs and sand small surface splinters in wood.
- Stop the installation if the ground is frozen or waterlogged and resume when it is stable.
Storage and maintenance
- Periodically check alignment, joints and anchors; readjust or re-anchor if you detect looseness or movement.
- Check the condition after frosts, heavy rain or gardening works that may have shifted the ground.
- Clean soil, leaves, moss and algae to reduce slip risk and material deterioration.
- Favour drainage around timber pieces to avoid permanent contact with water.
- Protect timber and metal with suitable exterior products following the manufacturer's instructions and renew when necessary.
- Carefully remove surface rust or cracked pieces and replace deformed elements or those with exposed points.
- Store stakes and accessories not yet installed in a dry place and out of reach of children and pets; protect the points during transport.
- When dismantling, remove anchors completely and fill the holes so as not to leave hazards in the ground.
Restrictions of use
- Do not use the edging or sleepers as steps, seats, load supports or edges to jump from unless expressly specified for the product.
- Do not install them in vehicle access areas or subject them to heavy loads if they are not designed for it.
- Avoid timber with industrial-use treatments or with strong odours or heavy staining in play areas, vegetable gardens or areas of frequent contact.
- Do not leave screws, nails or connectors exposed; use caps or protectors where available.
- Do not place the edging where it may obstruct drains, doors, walkways or garden maintenance tasks.
- Do not allow children to play on the edging or around stakes during installation; supervise pets.
- Do not dig or drive anchors without first verifying the absence of cables or pipes.
- Do not handle plastic edging at very low temperatures to avoid breakage; allow the material to acclimatise before bending or fixing.
