Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- Trips and falls due to loose edges, wrinkles or lifted overlaps; the surface may be slippery when wet.
- Cuts when using knives or scissors, and punctures from staples or anchoring stakes.
- Back injuries when moving heavy or bulky rolls.
- Fire or burn risk if exposed to embers, sparks, barbecues or other heat sources.
- Sun and weather exposure can embrittle the fabric and cause tears.
- Damage to plants if the fabric covers trunks or excessively impedes water and airflow to the roots.
- Entanglement or suffocation hazard for children and pets if they handle loose fabric.
- Accidental puncturing of irrigation pipes or buried cables when driving in stakes.
- Blocked drains and pooling if water drainage is obstructed.
Safe use
- Wear sturdy gloves and eye protection when cutting and fixing; cut on a stable surface, keeping the blade away from your body.
- Remove stones and sharp objects from the ground before laying to prevent tears; lightly level the surface.
- Do not cover gullies or grates; keep irrigation access points and other maintenance points accessible.
- Lay the fabric taut and wrinkle-free; overlap and anchor perimeters and joints with fixings suitable for the soil type and wind conditions.
- Bury or weight down the edges; covering with gravel, bark or other compatible mulch improves grip, protects against UV and reduces the risk of slipping.
- When planting, make cross-cuts of the required size; avoid tightening the fabric against the trunk and leave a clear ring around the plant’s collar.
- Check the location of pipes and cables before driving in; insert staples or stakes carefully and at a controlled angle.
- Keep away from barbecues, braziers and tools that generate sparks; do not burn weeds on the fabric.
- Limit traffic on exposed fabric; use walkways or a non-slip covering where it will be walked on.
Storage and maintenance
- Store rolls in a dry, ventilated place, protected from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures; keep the fabric rolled to avoid pronounced creases.
- Keep the product out of reach of children and pets.
- Avoid placing heavy or sharp objects on the roll to prevent deformation or puncturing.
- Clean the surface with water and a soft brush; avoid abrasive products and heat sources for drying.
- Remove accumulated leaves and organic matter to prevent weeds taking root on the fabric.
- Periodically check for tears, lifted edges and rusted fixings; re-anchor, repair or replace when you notice deterioration or brittleness.
- After strong winds or frosts, check tensions and anchoring points and readjust if necessary.
- If marked discolouration, brittleness or cracks appear, consider replacing in frequently used areas.
Restrictions of use
- Not a toy or protective equipment; do not use for lifting, towing, making awnings, hammocks or as a play item.
- Not suitable as a final walking surface without additional cover; avoid use on steep slopes without extra anchoring.
- Do not use near open flames, braziers, cigarette ends or very hot surfaces.
- Do not wrap people, animals or objects that require ventilation; risk of suffocation or overheating.
- Do not install covering grates, inspection points or access points that must remain operational.
- Do not leave loose ends exposed to the wind or protruding fixings in walkways.
- Installation and handling by adults; keep children and pets away during cutting and fixing.
- Do not reuse damaged or brittle pieces in areas of foot traffic or where a failure could cause falls.
