Warnings and safety precautions
Main risks
- Electric shock due to faulty connections, damaged cables or improper internal handling.
- Overheating and potential fire risk due to blocked ventilation or build-up of dust.
- Burns when touching areas with a high flow of hot air or heat sinks after prolonged use.
- Cuts or pinches during rack installation, handling of rails and contact with metal edges.
- Rack tipping over or equipment falling due to weight and unstable installation.
- Exposure to high noise levels in enclosed rooms with multiple units operating.
- Damage from liquids, condensation or environments with high humidity.
- Electrostatic discharge (ESD) that can damage internal components when handling the equipment.
- Risks associated with internal batteries (e.g., system or controller batteries) if punctured, overheated or incorrectly installed.
- Trips or accidental pulls due to disorganised cabling.
Safe use
- Install the server on a stable surface or in a compatible rack, securing rails and brackets as per the manufacturer's instructions.
- Keep air intakes and exhausts clear; do not cover grilles and leave clearance for airflow.
- Connect to a mains outlet with earth and avoid overloaded extension leads; consider using surge protection.
- Do not open the case or handle components with the unit powered on; power down, unplug and allow it to cool before working on it.
- Keep hands away from spinning fans; use appropriate guards and tools.
- If installing or replacing components, discharge static electricity (e.g., with an ESD wrist strap) and touch only the edges of boards.
- Manage cabling: route and secure it to prevent pulls, sharp bends and trips; do not step on or pinch cables.
- Avoid placing the equipment near heat sources, excessive dust or moisture; do not place containers with liquids on top.
- For moving or installing heavy equipment, use proper lifting technique and, if necessary, do so with two people or mechanical aids.
- If you notice a smell of burning, sparks, smoke or unusual noises, switch off and disconnect immediately.
Storage and maintenance
- Store the equipment in a dry, clean and well-ventilated location, protected from shocks and vibrations.
- Do not stack units in a way that could deform them or cause them to fall; use their original packaging for transport.
- Periodically clean filters, fans and grilles with dry, low-pressure air and with the equipment unplugged; avoid liquid cleaners.
- Check cables, plugs and connectors for wear, discolouration or looseness; replace damaged items immediately.
- Check the condition and fastening of rack rails, screws and brackets; retighten if necessary.
- Monitor ambient temperature and room airflow to prevent overheating.
- If the server includes internal batteries, replace them following the manufacturer's instructions and dispose of used ones at appropriate collection points.
- Perform power-on tests after any intervention and monitor for the first few minutes to spot any anomalies.
Usage restrictions
- Do not use the server outdoors or in environments with high humidity, conductive dust, heavy vibrations or potentially explosive atmospheres.
- Do not cover the equipment with fabrics or enclose it in furniture without adequate ventilation.
- Do not use adapters, cables or parts that are incompatible or in poor condition.
- Do not modify or tamper with the power supply, fans or chassis outside the manufacturer's instructions.
- Do not insert objects or liquids into slots, ports or grilles.
- Keep the equipment out of reach of children and pets; prevent unsupervised access in shared areas.
- High-load electrical installation, heavy rack mounting or cabinet relocation tasks must be carried out by experienced personnel.
- If the environment is very noisy, limit exposure and consider hearing protection.
