Usage Warnings

Water Pumps

Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Risk of electric shock due to moisture, improper connections or damaged cables.
  • Damage from leaks, hose rupture or overpressure, with possible flooding of the area.
  • Failure due to dry running, blockages or incorrect priming, leading to pump overheating.
  • Injury from moving parts when handling the pump while connected or without its guards fitted.
  • Burns or splashes if hot water is pumped without appropriate precautions.
  • Falls, impacts or tipping due to unstable installation or uncontrolled vibrations.
  • Water contamination if used with unsuitable liquids or if incorrectly connected to drinking-water systems.

Safe use

  • Check that the pump is suitable for the water type (clean, containing particles, wastewater) and the intended temperature.
  • Place the pump on a firm, level and accessible base; do not carry it by the cable or the pipework.
  • Ensure leak-tight connections with seals in good condition; avoid twisting, kinks and damaged hoses.
  • Do not immerse pumps that are not designed for submersion. For submersible pumps, use the designated lifting points to lower and lift them out.
  • Do not run the pump dry; prime it where required and bleed air from the circuit.
  • Provide ventilation around the motor and do not cover the pump during operation.
  • Keep cables away from water and sharp edges; use earthed sockets and avoid makeshift extension leads. Disconnect before handling.
  • Do not obstruct grilles, inlets or outlets; clean filters or pre-filters when necessary.
  • Monitor the initial start-up and after any changes to the installation to detect leaks, abnormal noises or vibrations, and stop the equipment if they occur.
  • Use accessories recommended by the manufacturer (e.g., non-return valve or filters) when required for your installation.

Storage and maintenance

  • Disconnect from the mains and relieve system pressure before any inspection or accessory change.
  • Periodically inspect seals, clamps, hoses, casing, cable and plug; replace any deteriorated parts.
  • Clean sediment, grilles and pre-filters to prevent blockages and loss of performance.
  • Drain the pump and pipework before prolonged inactivity or risk of frost to prevent cracking.
  • Store the pump dry, in a ventilated place and protected from impacts, dust and direct sunlight.
  • Avoid stacking weight on top and protect the inlet and outlet ports to prevent dirt from entering.
  • After maintenance or storage, carry out a supervised test, checking for leaks and proper operation.

Restrictions on use

  • Do not pump fuels, solvents, oils, flammable or corrosive liquids, or liquids with aggressive residues, unless expressly stated for the product.
  • Do not use in potentially explosive atmospheres or where flammable vapours are present.
  • Do not use for drinking water unless the product clearly states this.
  • Do not operate the pump without protective housings, covers or grilles correctly fitted.
  • Do not exceed the flow or pressure capacity specified by the manufacturer, nor force the unit by blocking the outlet.
  • Do not connect to voltages or sockets that do not conform to the product specifications.
  • Do not allow use by children, and do not leave the pump running unattended in areas accessible to children or pets.
  • Fixed electrical connections and modifications to the plumbing installation must be carried out by qualified personnel where applicable.
