Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Electric shock due to faulty installation or insulation, poor connections or water ingress.
  • Water ingress into the luminaire or junction boxes that can cause short circuits and corrosion.
  • Overheating if switched on out of the water or with the level below the lens; possible burns when touching hot surfaces after use.
  • Glare and loss of visibility that may cause trips or unsafe jumps.
  • Cuts from a broken lens or housing and sharp edges.
  • Deterioration of seals, cables and fixings due to pool chemicals or salt water.
  • Risk of damage to transformers and controllers from lack of ventilation or exposure to splashes.

Safe use

  • Read the manufacturer’s instructions and verify compatibility with the type of pool or spa and the water treatment.
  • Isolate the power at the distribution board before installing, adjusting or cleaning any component.
  • Do not handle luminaires in the water or allow bathing while work is being carried out on the lighting system.
  • Do not switch on lights designed for submerged use when they are out of the water or if the level is insufficient for cooling.
  • Ensure that seals, cable glands and covers are clean and properly seated to maintain watertightness.
  • Use the transformers, controllers and accessories specified by the manufacturer; do not mix incompatible equipment.
  • Install power supplies and controls in dry, ventilated locations, away from splashes.
  • Avoid looking directly at the LEDs at close range and position the luminaires to reduce glare on steps and walkways.
  • Allow the luminaire to cool before touching or opening it. If you observe condensation or water inside, switch off and do not use until it has been checked.

Storage and maintenance

  • Periodically check lenses, seals, screws, niches and cables for cracks, play, corrosion or brittleness.
  • Clean with a soft cloth and water; avoid abrasives, solvents and pressure jets that could damage seals or lenses.
  • Remove limescale or algae with compatible products and non-scratching tools to avoid scratching the lens.
  • Keep transformers, controllers and splices accessible, elevated and dry; do not cover them or obstruct their ventilation.
  • Store spares (bulbs, seals, fixings) in a dry place and away from pool chemicals.
  • After storms, power surges or work on the pool, check the condition of cables, protective devices and watertightness before using again.
  • During long periods without use or winterisation, isolate the power and do not switch on the luminaires if the pool is empty or the water level is below the lenses.

Restrictions of use

  • Do not use or handle the system if there is visible damage, loose parts, pinched cables or a cracked lens.
  • Do not switch on the lighting when the water level is below the luminaire or the spa is empty.
  • Do not drill, open or modify housings, niches, cables or connectors; avoid makeshift splices or extension leads not designed for damp or wet areas.
  • Do not cover the luminaire with covers, paint or objects that block heat dissipation or light output.
  • Do not use accessories, controllers or dimmers not specified by the manufacturer for that model.
  • Do not submerge remote controls, chargers or power supplies unless they are clearly designed for that purpose.
  • Do not allow children to handle lights, control panels or connections; always supervise children near water.
