Usage Warnings
Tap Cartridges
Warnings and safety precautions
Main risks
- Water leaks due to incorrect installation, worn seals or incompatibility with the tap.
- Scalds from excessively hot water if the mixing or the thermostatic cartridge is incorrectly adjusted.
- Damage to the tap or cartridge due to over-tightening, misalignment or build-up of limescale and particles.
- Minor injuries from tool use, sharp edges or spring-loaded or press-fit parts.
- Water hammer and sudden pressure changes that reduce the service life of the cartridge.
- Temporary water contamination by residual dirt if the system is not flushed before commissioning.
Safe use
- Check the cartridge's compatibility with the tap brand/model and type (single-lever, ceramic, thermostatic) before opening the packaging.
- Close the isolation valves and release pressure by opening the tap before dismantling any parts.
- Use suitable, well-maintained tools; protect the tap's finish with a cloth. Wear gloves to improve grip and avoid minor cuts.
- Remove the old cartridge and clean the housing; remove limescale and debris without scratching the sealing surfaces.
- Check the condition and position of seals and O-rings. Insert the cartridge aligning the guides and tighten firmly, without forcing or cross-threading.
- Turn the water on gradually and check that there are no leaks on hot and cold, and no unusual noises.
- On thermostatic models, calibrate the temperature according to the product instructions and verify the safety limit to prevent scalding.
- If the water runs cloudy or aerated after installation, let it run for a few minutes to flush the line.
Storage and maintenance
- Store the cartridge in its original packaging, in a dry, ventilated place protected from dust, impacts and direct sunlight.
- Avoid extreme temperatures and exposure to solvents, oils or harsh cleaners that can damage plastics and seals.
- Keep seals and small parts grouped and out of the reach of children and pets.
- Do not remove protective caps or factory-applied lubricants until the time of installation.
- Operate the tap periodically to prevent seizing due to limescale and visually check for any weeping.
- Clean the tap aerators/filters to reduce particle ingress; use descalers compatible with metals and seals. Do not open or immerse sealed cartridges unless specified by the manufacturer.
- Replace the cartridge if you notice excessive stiffness when operating, persistent leaks, cracks or abnormal play in the handle.
Usage restrictions
- Do not use the cartridge at pressures or temperatures outside the ranges specified by the tap or cartridge manufacturer.
- Do not modify, drill or disassemble sealed cartridges; do not mix parts from different models or brands.
- Do not reuse cartridges that are damaged, cracked or have deformed seals.
- Do not apply adhesives, sealants or greases that are not suitable for contact with water; always follow the product instructions.
- Do not install the cartridge if the pipework shows visible sediment or rust; flush and clean the system beforehand, and consider filters if particles are recurrent.
- Keep children and pets away from the work area during installation and testing.
- Installation and adjustments must be carried out by adults with basic plumbing knowledge; for thermostatic systems or where there is a risk of scalding, it may be advisable for a competent person familiar with such work to carry it out.
