Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- Unauthorised access to the camera or microphone if the software is not protected.
- Unintentional recording of video or audio and exposure of personal information.
- Webcam drops due to inadequate securing, with possible damage to the device or minor bumps.
- Cable tugs that may cause trips, equipment falling or damage to the port.
- Damage from liquids, condensation, dust or splashes near the equipment.
- Localised heating from direct sunlight exposure or from covering the device.
- Scratches or dirt on the lens that degrade the image and may lead to rough handling when cleaning.
Safe use
- Attach the webcam to a monitor or stable mount and check that the clip or fastening system is properly seated before releasing it.
- Route the cable behind the equipment and secure it gently to avoid tugs; keep it away from walkways and hinges.
- Connect and disconnect by holding the connector, never the cable; do not force the ports.
- Avoid pointing the lens towards direct sunlight or heat sources.
- Use the physical privacy shutter if available or a suitable accessory to cover the lens when not in use; disable camera and microphone permissions when not needed.
- Install drivers and applications only from official sources and keep the software up to date to reduce vulnerabilities.
- Check the framing to avoid capturing sensitive information from the surroundings or the screen.
- Disconnect from the port before cleaning; do not open the casing or modify the device.
Storage and maintenance
- Store the webcam in a case or box, in a dry, ventilated place, away from moisture, dust and direct heat.
- Protect the lens with its cap or a protector to prevent scratches when not in use.
- Coil the cable without sharp bends or tension on the connectors; avoid placing weight on it.
- Clean the lens with a dry microfibre cloth; do not use abrasive products or spray liquids directly onto the camera.
- Regularly inspect the cable, the connector and the mounting system for wear, looseness or cracks.
- Prevent the mount or cable from blocking the ventilation slots of the monitor or laptop.
Restrictions on use
- Indoor use only unless otherwise specified by the product; do not expose the camera to rain, steam or splashes.
- Keep the product out of reach of small children; risk of entanglement with the cable and ingestion of small detachable parts.
- Do not use it in bathrooms, very humid kitchens or near containers of liquids.
- Do not use it for surveillance or critical communications where a failure could pose risks to people or property.
- Do not modify, drill or attempt to repair the camera; if there is visible damage, stop using it.
- Avoid covering it with materials that may heat up or leave residue (for example, adhesive tape over the lens or microphone).
- Do not place it on unstable edges or on screens that cannot safely support the mounting system.
