Main risks

• Falls from leaning on the fly screen, mistaking it for a solid barrier, especially at windows and balconies.
• Trips if the mesh is loose or encroaches into the walkway, especially at patio doors.
• Cuts when handling tools, profiles or trimming the mesh; possible irritation from filaments in fibreglass mesh.
• Pinching in tracks, hinges or latches when opening and closing fly screen frames and doors.
• Detachment due to wind or use of unsuitable fixings, with risk of impact or falling parts.
• Risk of burns or fire if placed near barbecues, stoves, candles or other heat sources.
• Ingestion or choking from small parts (magnets, screws, caps) if they come loose, especially in children and pets.
• Possible skin or respiratory irritation from cutting dust or from chemical treatments on some fabrics.

Safe use

• Check compatibility with the window or door and follow the manufacturer’s instructions without forcing fittings or over-tensioning.
• Measure and cut on a stable surface; wear gloves and, if the mesh is fibreglass or generates dust, eye protection.
• Clean and dry surfaces thoroughly before applying tapes or hook-and-loop fasteners (Velcro); allow the adhesive to cure for the stated time and check the bond.
• Secure the bottom edge to prevent it from hanging loose and reduce tripping risk in walkways.
• Keep hands clear of tracks, hinges and magnetic closures when operating the fly screen.
• Position the fly screen a safe distance from barbecues, stoves, braziers and other heat or flame sources.
• Do not lean on the mesh or allow others to do so; where children are present, reinforce window safety with appropriate solutions.
• When working at height, use a stable ladder in good condition on level ground; do not overreach or work in rain or strong winds.
• If the fabric is treated with repellents, air it after unpacking and avoid prolonged skin contact; wash your hands after handling.

Storage and maintenance

• Periodically check that the mesh has no tears and that fixings, hook-and-loop fasteners, magnets and profiles are secure; replace damaged parts.
• Clean with a cloth or soft brush and soapy water; avoid solvents and abrasive products that could damage the fabric or adhesives.
• Allow to dry completely before refitting or storing to prevent mould and unpleasant odours.
• Store the mesh rolled up, in a dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent deformation and degradation.
• Keep tracks and frames free of dust and dirt for smooth sliding and to avoid jamming and pinching.
• For temporary installations, remove or reinforce the fly screen when strong gusts of wind are forecast.

Restrictions on use

• Do not use as a guardrail, safety net or barrier for children or pets; it is not designed to support weight or impacts.
• Do not install where it may block emergency exits or access to locks and handles.
• Do not place near open flames or appliances that emit intense heat; do not use to cover barbecues or grills.
• Do not hang objects, cords or lights from the fly screen; prevent children from playing with the fabric or with magnets and small parts.
• Do not use the fly screen as a dust filter, respiratory protection or protection against falling objects.
• Do not apply paints, insecticides or chemicals to the fabric unless expressly stated by the manufacturer.
• Do not use if there are tears, loose fixings or detached magnets; replace before using again.
