Usage Warnings

Food Storage Containers

Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Steam burns and splashes when opening after heating in the microwave.
  • Build-up of internal pressure and expulsion of contents if the container is heated while fully sealed.
  • Spills from poorly fitted closures or worn seals, with a risk of staining and slipping.
  • Breakage, chipping or warping due to impacts or thermal shock (sudden changes from very hot to very cold or vice versa).
  • Cuts from chipped edges on glass or cracked plastic containers.
  • Cross-contamination when using the same container for raw and ready-to-eat foods.
  • Food spoilage due to improper storage or excessive times, with a possible risk of food poisoning.
  • Cracking during freezing if no space is left for liquid expansion.

Safe use

  • Check the manufacturer’s icons or guidance on microwave, freezer and dishwasher compatibility.
  • In the microwave, open or release the lid vent (if present) or leave the lid slightly ajar; never heat fully sealed containers.
  • Remove metal parts, clips or unsuitable accessories before heating.
  • Do not use the containers in a conventional oven, under a grill, on a hob or over direct flame unless expressly indicated by the manufacturer.
  • When heating very fatty or high-sugar foods, use short intervals at a moderate power and stir between bursts to prevent overheating.
  • Always open with your face and hands away from the steam release point; use oven gloves if necessary.
  • Do not cut food inside the container to avoid damaging the surface and the seal.
  • Check that the lid and seal are properly seated before transport; avoid filling to the brim, especially with liquids.
  • Separate raw from cooked foods and label with the date; refrigerate or freeze as soon as possible (do not leave perishables at room temperature for more than 2 hours).
  • For freezing, leave headspace and close securely; for defrosting, do so in the fridge or using the appropriate microwave function and consume promptly.

Storage and maintenance

  • Wash before first use and after each use; remove and clean removable seals and valves.
  • Avoid abrasive scourers and very harsh cleaners that could scratch or damage surfaces and seals.
  • If using a dishwasher, place them as the manufacturer recommends to minimise heat-related warping.
  • Dry completely before storing; if possible, store with the lid slightly open or separate to promote ventilation.
  • Regularly inspect for cracks, warping, persistent stains or strong odours; replace the container or the seal if the closure ceases to be effective.
  • Do not stack under excessive weight or leave them near heat sources (radiators, direct sunlight, on top of hot ovens).
  • With glass containers, avoid thermal shock: do not pour boiling liquids into a cold container or place a hot one on cold, damp surfaces.

Restrictions on use

  • Keep out of reach of young children; lids, seals and valves may be small parts and pose a choking hazard.
  • Do not use the containers to store chemicals, solvents, fuels or other non-food substances.
  • Do not fill to the brim with liquids, especially if you are going to heat or freeze.
  • Do not transport very hot liquids in bags or backpacks without securing the closure and an upright position.
  • Do not use containers that are damaged, deformed, chipped or with an ineffective seal.
  • Do not place the containers on hobs, barbecue grills, in air fryers or under a grill, unless expressly indicated by the manufacturer.
  • If used by children, this must be under adult supervision, especially when heating and when opening due to the risk of steam.
