Dog Harnesses

Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • The dog may escape if the harness is poorly fitted or if the buckles or stitching fail.
  • Snagging and accidental strangulation if the harness or lead becomes caught on branches, railings, handles or other objects.
  • Skin irritation, chafing or hair loss due to prolonged pressure, dirt build-up or moisture.
  • Overheating and discomfort on hot days with thick materials or poor ventilation.
  • Entanglement between dogs during play, with a risk of panic or falls.
  • Ingestion of small parts if the dog chews buckles, straps or detached fittings.
  • Failure of rings or metal parts due to corrosion or wear, with a risk of breakage during a walk.

Safe use

  • Choose the correct size following the manufacturer’s guide and adjust the harness so it is snug but comfortable, without excessive slack or pressure points.
  • Before each use, check buckles, stitching and rings; do not use the harness if you notice wear, cracks or deformation.
  • Attach the lead only to the point intended by the manufacturer and make sure the clip is fully closed.
  • Avoid sudden tugs and handle the dog with smooth movements to reduce discomfort and prevent breakage.
  • Do not leave the dog unsupervised with the harness on, especially if it is trailing the lead or could snag on the surroundings.
  • In hot weather, limit sun exposure, provide breaks and water, and watch for signs of fatigue or excessive panting.
  • If the harness gets wet, remove it and dry both the product and the coat thoroughly before putting it back on.
  • Introduce the harness gradually to sensitive dogs to avoid stress and associate it with positive experiences.
  • Check the fit frequently on puppies or dogs with changes in weight or coat length.

Storage and maintenance

  • Clean the harness according to the manufacturer’s instructions; use mild products and rinse thoroughly to avoid residues that may irritate the skin.
  • Allow to air-dry completely, away from direct heat sources that could deform or damage the materials.
  • Store it in a dry, ventilated place, protected from moisture and prolonged direct sunlight.
  • Keep the harness out of reach of pets and children to prevent chewing or tampering.
  • Regularly inspect straps, padding, plastic components and metal parts; replace the harness if you notice fraying, rust or looseness that prevents a secure closure.
  • Avoid bleach, solvents or harsh cleaners that could weaken the fibres or finishes.

Restrictions of use

  • Do not use the harness as a car restraint system; for travel, use vehicle-specific solutions.
  • Do not use the harness to tether the dog in a fixed position without supervision (gardens, balconies, tie-out runners).
  • Do not lift or suspend the dog by the harness or its handles.
  • Do not modify the product (cuts, perforations, knots in the straps) or replace parts with others not intended by the manufacturer.
  • It is not a toy or a chew item; remove it if the dog tries to gnaw it.
  • Avoid using it over open wounds or very irritated skin; wait until recovery or use solutions recommended by your vet.
  • Do not share the same harness between dogs of different sizes without readjusting it each time.
