Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Electric shock due to improper handling of cables or plugs, or by opening the unit.
  • Overheating and fire caused by overloading, poor ventilation, or short circuits.
  • Risks associated with internal batteries: excessive heat, swelling, leaks, smoke, or unusual odour.
  • Dangerous backfeed into the mains if the UPS output is connected to a wall socket.
  • Drops or injury due to the unit’s weight during transport or installation.
  • Sparks or burns if the battery terminals are short-circuited or if handled when damaged.

Safe use

  • Install the UPS on a firm, level, well-ventilated surface; leave clearance around the vents.
  • Connect it only to an earthed mains outlet; avoid extension leads, daisy-chained adaptors, and plugging the UPS into power strips.
  • Do not connect high inrush or resistive equipment to the UPS output (e.g., laser printers, heaters, vacuum cleaners, coffee machines).
  • Do not exceed the manufacturer’s power/VA rating; prioritise essential loads.
  • Do not cover the vents or stack objects on top; keep dust under control to aid cooling.
  • Before replacing batteries, switch off the UPS and disconnect it from the mains; do not pierce, crush, or short-circuit the batteries and observe the indicated polarity.
  • Route and secure cables to prevent tugs and tripping hazards; keep plugs accessible for quick disconnection.
  • Do not open the casing or modify the unit; use only compatible accessories and battery packs recommended by the manufacturer.
  • If you detect a burning smell, crackling, smoke, or unusual heat, switch off and unplug the UPS if it is safe to do so, and ventilate the area.

Storage and maintenance

  • Store and use the UPS in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place, away from heat sources, direct sunlight, and moisture.
  • Keep the unit upright and protected from impacts; do not place weight on top.
  • If it will not be used for a period, recharge the batteries periodically as directed by the manufacturer to prevent degradation.
  • Regularly check cables, plugs, and casing; replace any component that is damaged or shows signs of wear.
  • Remove dust with a dry cloth with the unit switched off and unplugged; do not use liquids or aerosols inside.
  • Replace the batteries when runtime decreases significantly, alarms occur, or there is swelling or leakage.
  • Take discarded batteries and UPS units to authorised collection points; do not dispose of them with household waste.

Usage restrictions

  • Do not use the UPS outdoors, in damp areas, near water, or in environments with corrosive vapours.
  • Keep the unit out of reach of children and pets; installation and maintenance must be carried out under adult supervision.
  • Do not use it near flammable materials or in atmospheres with combustible dust.
  • Do not use the UPS for life-support equipment, critical medical devices, or other systems where failure could cause serious harm, unless the product is specifically designed for that purpose.
  • Do not connect the UPS output to a wall socket, generators, or other power sources; avoid looped installations that could cause backfeed.
  • Do not transport or move the UPS while it is operating or connected; switch it off and unplug it before moving.
  • Do not use the UPS if the casing is cracked, there are exposed wires, or the battery is swollen or damaged.
