Usage Warnings

Blankets

Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Contact with flames or high temperatures that may cause burns or start a fire.
  • Trips and falls if the blanket drags along floors, corridors or stairs.
  • Overheating, especially in babies, older adults or people with reduced mobility.
  • Suffocation or breathing difficulties in infants if the blanket covers the face.
  • Snagging from fringes, tassels or loose threads on cots, wheels, chair legs or moving mechanisms.
  • Irritation or allergies on sensitive skin caused by certain fibres or finishes.
  • Mould and unpleasant odours if stored damp; build-up of dust and mites if not cleaned regularly.
  • Colour transfer onto light-coloured surfaces, especially if the blanket is damp.

Safe use

  • Keep the blanket away from candles, fireplaces, heaters, radiators and cigarettes. Do not use it to cover hot appliances.
  • Fold it or place it over a backrest when not in use; avoid leaving it spread out in walkways to prevent trips.
  • For babies, use only light, breathable blankets and never cover the head; avoid excessive layering and watch for signs of overheating.
  • Check seams, fringes and embellishments; carefully trim any loose threads. Keep small parts out of reach of children and pets.
  • Dry it completely after washing or if it has become wet to prevent mould.
  • Avoid using it near moving mechanisms (wheels, fans, treadmills) where the fabric could get caught.
  • If it is bulky or heavy, position it so that it does not restrict movement or make it difficult to get up.

Storage and care

  • Always follow the care instructions on the label.
  • Wash separately the first few times to reduce the risk of colour bleeding or lint transfer.
  • Air-dry or as directed on the label, and ensure it is completely dry before storing.
  • Store in a dry, well-ventilated place, in a breathable cover; avoid airtight bags if it retains moisture.
  • Air it out periodically to reduce dust and odours; shake to remove lint.
  • Avoid compressing it for long periods, especially with natural fibres, to maintain its loft.
  • Check for wear, tears or snags and repair them; if the damage compromises safety, discontinue use.

Restrictions on use

  • Do not use as fire protection or as insulation for electrical appliances or heat sources.
  • Do not cover lamps, radiators, air vents or braziers.
  • Do not leave loose blankets in cots or Moses baskets during infant sleep; use age-appropriate alternatives.
  • Do not use as a restraint system, rope, bath mat or anti-slip device.
  • In homes with pets that chew or pull at fringes, opt for models without embellishments or those designed specifically for pets.
  • People with reduced heat sensitivity or limited mobility should use it with particular caution and, if necessary, under supervision.
  • If it continues to emit a strong odour or bleed colour after airing and washing, stop using it.
