Safety Helmets

Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Head injuries from falling objects or collisions with structures.
  • Penetration by sharp objects if the helmet is damaged or poorly fitted.
  • Loss of protection due to incorrect use of the harness or chinstrap.
  • Degradation of the helmet due to prolonged exposure to sunlight, high temperatures, sparks or chemicals.
  • Electrical hazard if working near conductors and the helmet is not the correct type as specified by the manufacturer.
  • Straps or accessories snagging on moving machinery.
  • Reduced field of vision or neck discomfort due to improper adjustment or incorrectly fitted accessories.

Safe use

  • Choose a helmet and size suitable for the intended job and environment, following the manufacturer’s guidance.
  • Adjust the harness so the helmet sits level and secure; it should not move when you tilt your head.
  • Use the chinstrap when there is a risk of falling, wind or sudden movements, and fasten it correctly.
  • Inspect before each use: shell, harness and buckles. If you notice cracks, deformation, pronounced discolouration, or stiff or worn parts, replace it.
  • Replace the helmet after any significant impact, even if no damage is visible.
  • Use only compatible accessories recommended by the manufacturer (visors, ear defenders, torches) and secure them safely.
  • Keep the inside clear: avoid thick caps or objects between your head and the harness that alter the fit.
  • If working near electricity, use only helmets specified by the manufacturer for that purpose and maintain safe distances.

Storage and maintenance

  • Clean with lukewarm water and mild soap; dry in the shade. Avoid solvents, harsh sprays and direct heat.
  • Store the helmet dry and ventilated, protected from direct sunlight, heat sources and chemical contaminants.
  • Do not leave it inside vehicles in the sun or compressed under prolonged weight.
  • Periodically inspect the harness and padding and replace them when they show wear or as recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Remove dirt, chips or splashes after work to prevent them from degrading the material.
  • Monitor the service life recommended by the manufacturer and replace the helmet when due, or earlier if it shows signs of fatigue.

Restrictions of use

  • Do not use it for cycling, climbing or other sports unless expressly indicated by the manufacturer.
  • Do not drill, sand, paint with solvents, or modify the helmet or its harness.
  • Do not use the helmet if it is damaged, has suffered a heavy impact, or has exceeded its recommended service life.
  • Do not combine accessories not designed for that model, or adapt parts in an improvised way.
  • Do not bring it close to open flames or intense sources of heat or sparks if it is not intended for that environment.
  • Do not leave the helmet within children’s reach as a toy, nor use it to suspend or carry loads.
