Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Tipping over or breaking under the weight of water if placed on uneven or unstable surfaces.
  • Risk of drowning for children and pets if the collector is accessible or left uncovered.
  • Breeding of mosquitoes, algae and bad odours due to stagnant water.
  • Slips caused by spills, leaks or overflows in areas of foot traffic.
  • Frost damage: frozen water can expand and crack the tank and its fittings.
  • Cuts or pinches when handling lids, taps, connectors or damaged edges.
  • Damage to floors, walls or foundations if the overflow directs water towards them.
  • Electrical risk if positioned near sockets, cables or appliances.

Safe use

  • Place it on a firm, level base capable of supporting the weight when full.
  • Keep the collector covered at all times with its lid or a tight-fitting mesh; secure all fastenings.
  • Locate it away from play areas and walkways; leave space around it for unobstructed, trip-free access.
  • Route the overflow and outlet water away from doors, foundations, sockets and slippery areas.
  • Do not move it when full; partially or fully empty it before relocating and avoid sudden movements.
  • Use the collected water only for irrigation and non-food-related outdoor uses; do not drink it or use it for cooking or personal hygiene.
  • After rain or wind, check that the lid, connections and hoses remain securely attached.
  • Close the tap after each use and control the flow to prevent splashing and puddles.
  • Keep babies, young children and pets under supervision when the collector is accessible.

Storage and maintenance

  • Periodically clean leaves, sediment and, if fitted, filters; rinse the interior to reduce algae and odours.
  • Regularly check for cracks, deformation, leaks, and inspect taps and seals; replace any damaged parts.
  • Keep the inlets covered with mesh to prevent insects and debris from entering.
  • Refresh the water regularly if it remains partially filled for long periods.
  • Before frosts, lower the level or empty completely; open the tap and disconnect hoses to prevent ice damage.
  • If using cleaning products, use those suitable for the material and rinse thoroughly before collecting water again.
  • Wipe up spills around it to prevent slips and mould.
  • Where possible, protect it from intense direct sunlight to limit material degradation.

Restrictions on use

  • Not suitable for human or pet consumption, nor for food preparation or personal hygiene.
  • Do not allow children to play with the water or to climb on, sit on or lean on the collector.
  • Do not store other liquids (fuels, solvents, paints or other chemicals).
  • Do not use as a step, bench or support for heavy objects.
  • Do not drill, cut or modify lids, walls, taps or outlets other than as intended by the manufacturer.
  • Do not install on surfaces that cannot support the weight when full (e.g., weak balconies or lightweight roofs).
  • Do not place it indoors without a controlled overflow system nor near sockets or electrical appliances.
  • Do not connect it to the domestic water supply nor subject it to pressure.
