Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- Falls and bumps when climbing in or out of the sandpit, or when tripping over edges and corners.
- Finger trapping in hinged lids, hinges, or integrated benches.
- Choking from ingestion of sand or from small toys and accessories.
- Irritation to eyes, skin or airways from contact with dirty sand or dust.
- Presence of hidden sharp objects in the sand and contamination by animals.
- Heat and sun exposure: very hot surfaces and sand, risk of burns and dehydration.
- Accumulation of water that leads to slips, attracts insects and poses risks to very young children.
Safe use
- Install the sandpit on a flat, stable, clear surface, away from swimming pools, barbecues and walkways.
- Use children’s play sand; avoid builders' sand, gravel or other unsuitable materials.
- Before each use, check and remove stones, sticks or foreign objects; ensure there are no sharp edges or loose parts.
- Constant adult supervision during play; set clear rules: no throwing sand, no burying heads, and no putting sand in the mouth.
- Check the temperature of the sand and edges on sunny days; prioritise shade and hydration.
- Teach children to shake sand off their hands and avoid touching their eyes; wash their hands after play.
- Open and close lids or benches carefully, keeping hands away from the hinges; secure the lid if the design allows.
- Do not allow jumping from the edge or the sides to be used as a step or unstable seat.
- Avoid filling the sandpit with water; if the sand gets wet, rake or turn it to aerate and allow it to dry completely.
Storage and maintenance
- Cover the sandpit when not in use with a close-fitting lid or cover to prevent animals, leaves and dirt from getting in.
- Loosen and aerate the sand regularly; sieve it to remove debris and hard items.
- Replace some or all of the sand if it is visibly dirty, has a bad odour, or mould and insects appear.
- After rain, remove standing water and improve drainage; spread out the sand to speed up drying.
- Periodically check the structure: splinters in wood, cracks in plastic, rust or loose fixings; repair before using again.
- Ensure the lid closes properly and does not leave gaps where animals can get in.
- Store sandpit toys clean and dry in a separate container.
- During prolonged periods of inactivity, partially empty and cover; if the product is lightweight, protect it from the wind.
Restrictions on use
- Do not leave children unsupervised; take extra care with the youngest due to the risk of sand ingestion.
- Observe the recommended age, maximum weight and number of users indicated for each product.
- Do not use as a platform for climbing, jumping or supporting heavy objects.
- Do not move the sandpit when it is full of sand.
- Do not allow use by pets or use it as a litter tray.
- Do not place stones, sharp tools, soapy water or other materials unrelated to play.
- Do not install on elevated surfaces, near stairs or edges with a drop.
- Avoid use in strong winds if it includes canopies, parasols or lightweight elements.
