Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Cuts from sharp edges of components and tools during cutting, fitting or handling.
  • Inhalation of dust or fibres when cutting or sanding panels, sheets or battens.
  • Irritation of skin, eyes or airways from adhesives, primers and sealants.
  • Cladding coming loose or falling due to insufficient fixing or an unsuitable substrate.
  • Accidentally drilling into hidden electrical cables or pipes.
  • Moisture trapped behind the cladding that can encourage mould and unpleasant odours.
  • Deterioration from exposure to intense heat or continuous water in products not designed for it.
  • Injuries from overexertion when lifting large or heavy pieces, and from working at height with ladders.
  • Strong odours or volatile compounds in poorly ventilated rooms during installation.

Safe use

  • Check that the cladding is suitable for the room and the base surface (interior/exterior, dry or wet areas) according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Prepare the surface: clean, dry, sound and level; remove dust, grease and any poorly adhered coatings.
  • Plan the layout and dry-fit the pieces before fixing to adjust cuts and joints.
  • Wear cut-resistant gloves, safety goggles and a dust mask when cutting or sanding.
  • Ventilate well during and after using adhesives and sealants; keep flames and sparks away.
  • Apply the adhesive in the specified amount and observe the drying/curing times before loading or cleaning.
  • For heavy or large-format pieces, consider combining adhesive with mechanical fixings if permitted by the manufacturer.
  • Before drilling, use a detector to locate hidden cables, pipes or other services.
  • Maintain a safe distance from heat sources (cookers, fireplaces, radiators) unless the product states compatibility.
  • Use stable ladders and additional assistance to handle long pieces or to install on ceilings.

Storage and maintenance

  • Store materials in a dry, ventilated place, protected from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Keep packages sealed until use and acclimatise the product in the room 24–48 hours before installation where recommended.
  • Store panels and sheets in a flat or horizontal position to prevent warping and bowing.
  • Keep adhesives and sealants tightly closed and out of reach of children and pets.
  • Clean with a soft cloth and neutral detergent; avoid abrasives, strong solvents and metal scourers.
  • Wipe up water splashes and promote ventilation in damp areas to reduce condensation.
  • Periodically check joints and trims; repair or renew sealant if you observe cracks or detachment.
  • Protect corners and edges from impacts; do not hang loads from the panels unless they are designed for that purpose.

Restrictions of use

  • Do not use the cladding as a structural element or as an anchor point for heavy objects.
  • Do not install on unstable surfaces, or where there is active moisture, mould or flaking paint, without first resolving these issues.
  • Do not place in areas of intense heat or direct flame (hobs, burners, stoves) unless explicitly stated as suitable.
  • Do not use in immersion or in continuous contact with water if the product is not designed for it.
  • Do not mix incompatible adhesives or fixing systems, nor alter the mixing ratios.
  • Do not allow children to handle small pieces, offcuts or chemicals; keep the work area supervised.
  • Do not drill or groove the installed cladding without first checking for hidden services.
  • Do not clean with pressurised steam or aggressive products unless clearly specified by the manufacturer.
