Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Drowning or exhaustion due to powerful waves, rip currents and tides.
  • Impacts with your own board, the rail or the fins, including leash snap-back (leash).
  • Cuts and abrasions on rocky seabeds or reefs, and from contact with fins.
  • Leash entanglement with rocks, seaweed or other objects.
  • Collisions with other people, boards or watercraft in crowded areas.
  • Loss of control of the board in the shorebreak or in strong winds, posing a risk to others.
  • Exposure to cold or heat: hypothermia, dehydration and sunburn.
  • Damage to the board (dings, cracks, loose fins) that reduce buoyancy and control.
  • Accidents during transport and loading/unloading: falls from the vehicle or slips when handling a wet board.

Safe use

  • Choose conditions suited to your level and check waves, wind, tides, access points and marked zones before entering.
  • Always use a leash in good condition and properly attached; check that the fins and attachment points are secure.
  • Keep a safe distance; avoid letting go of your board near others; protect your head when falling and do not dive headfirst in shallow water.
  • Identify currents and channels; if a current carries you, stay calm and try to exit diagonally when it is safe.
  • If the leash gets snagged, avoid sudden yanks and try to free it carefully only when it is safe to do so.
  • Use appropriate protection for the temperature (wetsuit or rash vest), apply water-resistant sunscreen and stay hydrated.
  • Respect priority rules and beach signage; enter and exit the water via clear areas and away from swimming zones.
  • Avoid surfing alone in demanding conditions; tell someone your plan and stay within your level.

Storage and maintenance

  • Rinse the board, fins and leash with fresh water after each use and dry them in the shade.
  • Avoid prolonged exposure to sun or heat (inside the car or boot), which can warp or damage the board.
  • Store it in a protective, ventilated bag; do not store it wet or with salt residue.
  • Store horizontally on padded racks or vertically with protection on the tail; do not leave it propped on its tips or under weight.
  • Regularly check for dings, cracks and play in fins and leash; repair or replace damaged parts before use.
  • For transport, use suitable roof racks and straps; protect rails and fins and make sure there is no movement.
  • Avoid solvents and harsh chemicals when cleaning the board.

Restrictions on use

  • It is not a lifesaving or flotation device.
  • Do not use under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or when extremely fatigued.
  • Do not surf in prohibited areas, navigation channels, harbours or areas with swimmers.
  • Do not use during thunderstorms or in very low visibility.
  • Minors: always under the direct supervision of an adult and in conditions suited to their level and the water temperature.
  • Do not modify or drill the board, fins or leash; use only compatible accessories.
  • If the board has visible structural damage or the leash is worn, do not use it until it has been repaired or replaced.
  • Those with physical limitations or recovering from an injury should avoid demanding conditions and opt for calm waters.
