Usage Warnings

Saddles and Bridles for Horses

Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Falls or loss of control due to ill-fitting saddles or bridles, loose girths, or defective components.
  • Injuries and chafing on the horse's back, withers, mouth and poll caused by excessive pressure or hard spots.
  • Breakage of straps, buckles, stirrup leathers or reins due to wear, with risk of accidents.
  • Sudden reactions from the horse due to pain, pinching or discomfort from the bit or noseband.
  • Reins and straps becoming trapped or snagged on fences, branches or other obstacles.
  • Skin irritation caused by sweat, moisture, mould or inappropriate cleaning products.

Safe use

  • Follow the manufacturer's instructions to choose the correct size and adjust each piece without causing pain or pressure points.
  • Before each use, check stitching, leather or synthetic material, billets, stirrup leathers, girth, buckles and reins; do not use the equipment if you notice cracks, cuts or rust.
  • Fit and adjust the saddle and bridle calmly, avoiding pinching skin or mane; tidy and secure any excess strap ends.
  • Tighten the girth gradually and check the saddle's stability before mounting; check again after a few minutes of light work.
  • Watch the horse: if it shows signs of discomfort (head-shaking, resistance, rubs), stop the activity and readjust or change the equipment.
  • Never tie the horse by the reins or bridle; use a headcollar and an appropriate tying system.
  • Keep stirrups and reins secured when leading the horse in hand to prevent tripping and snagging.
  • Use an approved riding helmet and closed-toe footwear with a heel; gloves improve grip and reduce chafing.

Storage and maintenance

  • Remove sweat and dirt after each use with products suitable for the material; dry at room temperature, away from direct heat sources.
  • Store the saddle on a stand that maintains its shape and hang the bridle without forced bends, in a dry, ventilated place away from direct sunlight and humidity.
  • Feed and condition the leather periodically according to the manufacturer's recommendations; avoid over-application.
  • Inspect and replace wear parts (billets, girths, stirrup leathers, reins) in good time with compatible spares.
  • Check buckles, clips and fittings for looseness, sharp edges or corrosion.
  • If the equipment gets wet from rain, clean and dry it completely before storing to prevent mould and deterioration.
  • Keep the equipment out of reach of children and pets.

Restrictions on use

  • Do not use saddles or bridles with visible damage, distortion or loose stitching; repair or replace before riding.
  • Do not modify, pierce or cut the parts; alterations can compromise fit and strength.
  • Do not leave the horse unattended with the bridle or saddle on in the stable or the field.
  • Do not use the bridle or reins to tie, drag or lift loads; they are only for controlling the horse while riding.
  • Avoid sharing bits and equipment that contact the mouth without adequate cleaning between horses.
  • If the horse has wounds or irritation in contact areas, stop using the equipment until recovery and adjust the fit accordingly.
  • Minors or inexperienced persons must use this equipment under the supervision of someone experienced in riding.
  • Ensure the equipment is suitable for the intended discipline or intensity before use.
