Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- Falls or loss of control due to poorly secured accessories that move or interfere with the handlebars, brakes or wheels.
- Instability due to overloading or a poorly distributed load in baskets, panniers or racks.
- Snagging of straps, cable ties or cables in the spokes, the chain or the brake rotors.
- Reduced visibility if lights are misaligned, obstructed or have depleted batteries.
- Distractions when handling phone mounts, GPS units or cycling computers while riding.
- Risk of cuts or pinches when installing or adjusting parts and clamps.
- For accessories with batteries or CO2 cartridges: overheating, leaks or sudden ejection of cold gas.
Safe use
- Before installation, check compatibility with your bike and the mounting point specified by the manufacturer.
- Install with the proper tools and check the fastening before every ride; nothing should move, vibrate excessively or rub.
- Ensure accessories do not block the rotation of the handlebars nor restrict the movement of cables, brakes or gears, and that they do not touch the wheels or pedals.
- Keep straps, cable ties and cables tidy and away from the spokes, chain and brake rotors.
- Position lights so you can see and be seen without dazzling; clean the lenses and check charge/runtime before setting off.
- Balance the load in panniers and on racks and use all attachment points; do not carry loose items that could fall.
- Do not handle phone mounts or devices while riding; make adjustments with the bike stationary in a safe place.
- When using pumps or CO2 cartridges, follow the instructions, do not point at the face or skin and check the pressure is compatible with your tyres.
- Before transporting the bike in a car or on a bike rack, remove loose accessories or secure them to prevent them coming off.
- In rain or mud, protect connectors and electrical components as per the manufacturer’s guidance and dry them afterwards.
Storage and maintenance
- Clean with a damp cloth and dry thoroughly; avoid harsh solvents and high-pressure water jets on electrical parts.
- Periodically check screws, mounts, buckles and straps; replace them if they show play, wear or cracks.
- Keep light lenses and reflectors clean and free from cracks to maintain visibility.
- After rides in the rain, remove and air panniers and bags to prevent mould and odours.
- For battery-powered accessories: charge on a stable, non-flammable surface, use compatible chargers, do not cover during charging and do not charge swollen or damaged units.
- If you will not use the accessory for a while, remove the batteries to prevent leakage and store batteries in a cool, dry place, away from direct heat or sunlight.
Restrictions of use
- Do not exceed the load capacity specified by the manufacturer for baskets, panniers and racks.
- Do not mount multiple accessories on the same attachment point if it compromises a secure fit or interferes with handling.
- Do not use electrical accessories in heavy rain or when submerged unless specifically indicated by the manufacturer.
- Do not use accessories not intended for demanding disciplines (downhill, BMX, jumps) for that type of riding.
- Do not allow minors to install or handle accessories without adult supervision.
- Do not use damaged or rusty CO2 cartridges or expose them to heat sources or the inside of a vehicle in the sun.
- Do not place lights, bags or mounts where they may strike your legs or interfere with pedalling.
