Usage Warnings

Pond Liners

Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Punctures or tears of the liner caused by stones, roots or sharp objects.
  • Slips and falls when stepping on the liner, especially when wet or muddy.
  • Cuts while cutting or trimming the material and when handling edges or tools.
  • Risk of entrapment or suffocation when handling large, flexible liners in confined spaces or in windy conditions.
  • Irritation to skin, eyes or respiratory tract from adhesives, primers or sealants; some products may be flammable.
  • Burns when using heat guns or other heat sources to join or shape the material.
  • Strains and impacts when moving heavy rolls or rigid preformed basins.
  • Drowning risk for children and pets once the pond is filled.
  • Degradation from solar radiation or extreme temperatures that can lead to embrittlement and leaks over time.

Safe use

  • Prepare a smooth, clean base; remove stones and roots and, if possible, place a protective layer beneath the liner.
  • Handle large liners between two people; avoid covering the face and control wind during unrolling.
  • Wear sturdy gloves and footwear with non-slip soles; use safety glasses and a mask as needed when cutting or applying adhesives or cleaners.
  • Avoid walking directly on the liner; if essential, lay boards to distribute the weight and do not use sharp-pointed tools on top.
  • Ventilate the area well when using adhesives, primers or cleaners; keep them away from sparks, naked flames and heat sources.
  • Observe curing times before filling with water and introducing fish or plants.
  • Secure and finish the edges correctly to prevent slippage, creases and tears.
  • For rigid preformed basins, fill progressively with water while compacting the surround to minimise stresses and possible cracks.
  • Keep the work area tidy; avoid electrical leads and tools coming into contact with wet areas.

Storage and maintenance

  • Store the liners rolled or laid flat in a cool, dry, shaded place, protected from direct sunlight and heat sources.
  • Protect from sharp objects and do not place heavy loads on top that could mark or deform the material.
  • Keep adhesives, primers and sealants tightly closed, upright and in ventilated places; avoid frost and high temperatures.
  • Keep all products out of the reach of children and pets.
  • Clean the pond without harsh products; remove leaves, branches and sediment that could damage the lining.
  • Periodically inspect the liner and edges for cuts, lifting or water loss; repair with compatible kits following the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Protect exposed edges with stones, gravel or edging to reduce wear from UV exposure.
  • If the pond is emptied, avoid leaving the empty liner exposed to the sun for prolonged periods to minimise stresses and cracking.

Restrictions of use

  • Do not use for drinking water or food-related uses.
  • Do not use solvents, paints or aggressive chemicals not stated as compatible with the material.
  • Do not bring open flames close or smoke while using adhesives, cleaners or primers.
  • Do not puncture the liner for fixings; use edge-based fixing methods.
  • Do not install over surfaces with aggressive roots without an adequate protective barrier.
  • Do not mix adhesives or sealants of different bases without confirming their compatibility.
  • Do not walk on the lining with spiked or studded footwear, nor drag sharp objects.
  • Do not leave children or pets unsupervised near the pond; consider physical barriers where there is a risk.
  • Do not drive heavy machinery over, or carry out additional excavations on, the installed lining.
