Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- Tipping or shifting due to wind, accidental knocks or unstable ground.
- Partial collapse if overloaded with plants, pots or heavy ornaments.
- Cuts, pinches or splinters during assembly and when handling parts.
- Tripping over bases, ground pegs, guy lines or protruding anchoring elements.
- Loss of strength due to metal corrosion or timber degradation.
- Risk to children if they climb or swing from the arch.
- Damage to underground services when driving pegs or drilling into the ground.
- If lighting is included, electrical hazard from damaged cables or connections not rated for outdoor use.
Safe use
- Assemble the arch following the manufacturer’s instructions, with all parts present and properly tightened. Wear gloves and, when drilling, eye protection.
- Ensure firm anchoring appropriate to the ground type (pegs, bolted bases or ballast). Check it is plumb and stable before use.
- Avoid installing on soft or slippery surfaces without a suitable fixing system.
- Do not hang pots, lights or decorations that exceed the recommended weight. Distribute the load and avoid side pulls.
- Position the arch leaving clear passage and with no protrusions at head height. Mark or protect any anchoring points that could cause trips.
- Keep a distance from barbecues, heaters and other sources of heat or open flame.
- Before driving or screwing into the ground, confirm there are no buried pipes, cables or other services.
- On days of strong wind, remove heavy decorations and check the anchoring; if necessary, dismantle temporarily.
- If the arch incorporates lighting, use equipment rated for outdoor use and ensure cables and connections are kept clear of water and free from strain.
Storage and maintenance
- Periodically check screws, joints and anchors. Tighten fixings and replace damaged or rusty parts.
- Clean regularly to remove soil and plant debris that retain moisture.
- Protect timber with suitable products and treat rust on metal to prevent further corrosion.
- Avoid continuous contact with standing water and encourage drainage at the base.
- In severe weather, prune back excess climbing vegetation, remove additional loads and reinforce the anchoring.
- If it is not going to be used for a season, dismantle and store under cover in a dry, ventilated place, protecting fittings and ends.
Usage restrictions
- Do not use as a ladder, swing, exercise equipment or anchorage point for loads.
- Do not hang from it or allow people or pets to climb onto the arch.
- Do not modify the structure (cut, drill reinforcements or remove crosspieces) unless indicated by the manufacturer.
- Do not install on wall edges, balconies or unstable ground without a specific and secure fixing system.
- Do not use if it shows looseness/play, visible deformations, cracked timber or significant corrosion.
- Supervise children when they are nearby and prevent climbing or swinging play on the arch.
- Do not place where it obstructs exits, narrow passageways or frequently used doors.
- Do not place cables, lights or decorations not suitable for outdoor use nearby, nor operate electrical connections with wet hands.
