Swimming Pool Covers
Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- Drowning due to unintended access by children or pets if the cover is not correctly installed or secured.
- Entrapment beneath the cover or between the pool edge and the cover if someone falls into the water while the pool is covered.
- Slips and falls when attempting to walk on or lean on the cover; many are not designed to bear weight.
- Trips and knocks with straps, anchors, ground pegs and rollers around the pool.
- Pinches and cuts to hands when tensioning straps or operating winding mechanisms.
- Detachment or wind damage, with a risk of whiplash from straps and movement of the cover.
- Accumulation of water, leaves, snow or ice on the cover that may cause sagging or tearing.
- Eye or respiratory irritation from fumes when uncovering immediately after adding chemicals.
- Electrical hazard and entrapment risk in tracks and rollers on motorised models.
Safe use
- Remove the cover completely before swimming; do not swim with the pool partially or fully covered.
- Do not walk, sit or allow play on the cover unless explicitly indicated by the manufacturer.
- Keep the perimeter clear and protect anchors to reduce trips; mark any visible straps.
- Secure and tension the cover according to the product instructions; avoid gaps through which someone could slip.
- Safely remove accumulated water and debris without climbing on it; work from stable areas using appropriate tools.
- In periods of strong wind or storms, reinforce the fixings or remove the cover if recommended by the manufacturer.
- After dosing chemicals, wait and ventilate before covering; when uncovering, open gradually so vapours can dissipate.
- If motorised, keep hands, hair and clothing away from rollers and tracks; operate with a direct line of sight to the pool and stop movement if any obstacle is present.
- Do not force the system if it jams; identify and correct the cause before operating again.
Storage and maintenance
- Periodically inspect seams, eyelets, bars, straps, anchoring points and the roller; replace damaged or worn parts.
- Clean with water and neutral soap; rinse off chemical residues to prevent material degradation.
- Allow to dry completely before folding or rolling to prevent mould and bad odours.
- Store the cover in a dry, ventilated place, away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
- Protect edges and mechanisms during storage or transport to avoid abrasion and punctures.
- Check and adjust the tension of the anchors at the start of the season and after episodes of strong wind.
- In cold climates, monitor the snow/ice load and remove it carefully if the cover is not designed to bear it; do not walk on it.
- Lubricate, where appropriate and as indicated by the manufacturer, the moving parts of the roller and fittings.
Restrictions of use
- It is not a lifesaving or anti-drowning device and does not replace active supervision or other safety barriers.
- Do not allow children to operate the cover; keep remotes, keys or switches out of their reach.
- Do not use the cover if it has tears, loose fixings, deformations or missing parts.
- Do not place furniture or heavy objects on the cover, nor use it as a walkway.
- Do not leave the cover partially open without supervision; it increases the risk of falls and entrapment.
- Do not operate motorised systems if there are people, pets or objects on the cover or floating in the pool.
- Do not climb onto the cover to clean, remove snow or reach other areas.
- Avoid use in extreme weather conditions if you cannot guarantee secure anchoring.
