Usage Warnings

Hedge Trimmers

Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Severe cuts from contact with the blades and from unexpected tool movement.
  • Ejection of branches, splinters and debris that may strike the eyes and face.
  • Snagging or cutting of the cable on corded models, and possible electric shock if there is moisture or damaged insulation.
  • Loss of control due to jams in the hedge, snatching or kickback of the machine.
  • Fatigue, tingling from vibration and awkward postures that increase the risk of falls.
  • Risks to nearby people, children and pets in the work area.
  • Damage from hidden objects in the hedge (wires, stones, fences) that may be ejected.
  • High noise levels that may cause discomfort during prolonged use.
  • Risk of burns or fire from hot parts and fuel in petrol models; overheating or damage to batteries if mishandled.
  • Hazard when working at height, on unstable ladders or near power lines.

Safe use

  • Read and follow the instructions for your model before first use, and check that guards and controls operate correctly.
  • Before starting, clear the work area and keep bystanders and pets at a safe distance.
  • Always wear eye protection, sturdy gloves, non-slip footwear and, where appropriate, hearing protection. Avoid loose clothing and accessories that could snag.
  • Hold the hedge trimmer with both hands and maintain a stable stance; avoid working above shoulder height.
  • Plan your cuts and proceed in a controlled manner without forcing the blades. Stop if you notice unusual vibration or noise.
  • On corded models, keep the cable behind your body and out of the cutting area. Use intact, outdoor-rated extension leads.
  • Do not use the hedge trimmer in the rain, with wet hands or on slippery surfaces. Avoid working in poor visibility or strong winds.
  • If the blades jam, release the trigger, wait for a complete stop, and unplug or remove the battery before clearing debris with an appropriate tool (not your hands).
  • Keep a safe distance from power lines, electric fences and metal objects.
  • Take regular breaks to reduce fatigue and the effects of vibration.
  • For petrol models: switch off and allow to cool before refuelling, avoiding nearby flames or sparks. For battery models: charge on stable, ventilated surfaces with the charger specified by the manufacturer and do not cover.

Storage and maintenance

  • Before any cleaning, adjustment or accessory change, unplug or remove the battery. On petrol models, ensure the engine is switched off and cool.
  • Clean the blades after each use to remove sap and debris. Apply lubrication when necessary, following the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Frequently check the condition of the blades, fasteners, casing and, where applicable, the cable. Do not use the equipment if you observe any damage.
  • Always fit the blade sheath or guard when transporting or storing.
  • Store the hedge trimmer in a dry, ventilated place out of the reach of children. Avoid direct sunlight, moisture and heat sources.
  • Store batteries separately from the tool, in a cool, dry place, away from metal objects and direct sunlight. Do not use or charge damaged or swollen batteries.
  • Fuel must be stored in suitable, well-sealed containers, away from sources of ignition.
  • Blade sharpening and repairs should be carried out by a qualified service centre using compatible spare parts.
  • Periodically check that the safety interlock and stop mechanisms operate correctly before each use.

Restrictions of use

  • This is not a tool for cutting trunks or large-diameter branches; use the appropriate tool for that purpose.
  • Do not use the hedge trimmer on unstable ladders or overreach. For tall hedges, prioritise pole tools or stable platforms.
  • Do not allow use by minors or by persons under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or who are extremely fatigued.
  • Do not modify the tool or remove guards or safety covers.
  • Do not charge batteries or refuel near flames, sparks or flammable materials. Do not smoke during these operations.
  • Do not use petrol engines in enclosed spaces due to the build-up of exhaust gases.
  • Do not use batteries, chargers or accessories that are not compatible with the model.
  • Do not work near power lines or installations where you cannot guarantee a safe clearance distance.
