Usage Warnings

Pergolas and Canopies

Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Tipping or wind-driven displacement if the structure is not correctly anchored or the canopies are not properly tensioned.
  • Collapse due to build-up of water or snow on the roof.
  • Falls and finger entrapment during assembly, especially when handling profiles, posts and retractable mechanisms.
  • Tripping over guy ropes, pegs, tensioners, bases and ballast weights.
  • Risk of fire or burns due to proximity to barbecues, heaters, candles or other heat sources.
  • Electric shock or damage if lights or cables unsuitable for outdoor use are installed or exposed to moisture.
  • Premature deterioration, mould or odours due to trapped moisture in canopies and side panels.
  • Damage to floors or facades due to inadequate or poorly positioned anchors.

Safe use

  • Assemble with at least two people, following the product instructions and working on a firm, level surface.
  • Always anchor to the ground or wall using fixings compatible with the mounting surface (pegs, wall plugs, plates or ballast weights) and check the tension of canopies and guy ropes.
  • Retract awnings, remove side panels or dismantle temporary gazebos/marquees if strong winds, storms or snowfall are forecast; do not use in strong gusts.
  • Safely remove any accumulated water or snow to prevent overloading.
  • Maintain a safe distance from heat sources and flames; ensure ventilation if using outdoor heaters and do not use combustion appliances in enclosed spaces.
  • Do not climb on or hang from the structure, or use it to support heavy objects (plant pots, lamps, swings or similar).
  • Before each use, check joints, screws/bolts, anchors and the condition of the fabrics; replace damaged or worn parts.
  • If installing lights or other accessories, ensure they are suitable for outdoor use and keep cables protected from abrasion, foot traffic and standing water.
  • Make sure there are no branches, overhead cables or obstacles above or to the sides of the installation.

Storage and maintenance

  • Clean canopies and structures with water and mild soap; avoid abrasive products and high-pressure jets that could damage seams or coatings.
  • Dry fabrics completely before folding or storing to prevent mould and staining.
  • Store canopies, side panels and marquees in a dry, ventilated place, away from persistent moisture and direct sunlight when not in use for long periods.
  • Protect the structure with covers; during the off-season, remove awnings or textile roofs if the design permits.
  • Periodically check and re-tighten screws, joints and tensioners; ensure pegs, wall plugs, plates and ballast weights are not corroded or loose.
  • Remove leaves, debris and puddles that could overload the canopies or block drains.
  • Repair small tears or loose seams as soon as possible with compatible repair kits to prevent them from spreading.

Restrictions on use

  • Do not use in adverse weather conditions: strong winds, thunderstorms, hail or heavy snowfall.
  • Do not install on unstable, slippery surfaces or close to steep slopes.
  • Do not light barbecues, candles or heaters under enclosed marquees or in close proximity to canopies and side panels.
  • Do not hang additional loads or heavy accessories from beams or crossbars.
  • Do not drill, cut or modify the structure; use only parts and accessories compatible with the model.
  • Do not allow children to climb, play or handle zips, ropes and tensioners without supervision.
  • Do not use electrical devices that are not suitable for outdoor use, or leave cables in walkways or in contact with water.
  • For wall fixings or structural anchors, if you lack experience, consult a qualified professional.
