Top Boxes and Roof Racks

Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Detachment of the roof box or roof rack due to incorrect installation or loosening while driving.
  • Loss of cargo or projection of objects due to insufficient securing.
  • Altered vehicle stability, increased braking distance and sensitivity to crosswinds due to weight and aerodynamics.
  • Impacts with low ceilings, barriers, branches or signs due to the increased height or length of the vehicle.
  • Obstruction of lights, number plate, sensors or rear camera with rear-mounted solutions.
  • Finger trapping, knocks or falls during loading, unloading and opening/closing.
  • Damage to the roof, roof bars or paint due to overloading, poor weight distribution or scuffing.

Safe use

  • Check compatibility with your vehicle and mounting system, and respect the load limits of both the vehicle and the accessory itself.
  • Follow the manufacturer's installation instructions and tighten the fixings evenly; check that there is no play.
  • Distribute the weight centrally and as low as possible; avoid loose items and use suitable straps to immobilise the load.
  • Ensure that lids, locks and keys are fully closed and locked before setting off.
  • Recheck the tightness and condition of the assembly after the first few kilometres and during stops on long journeys.
  • Adapt your driving: reduce speed, increase following distance and avoid abrupt manoeuvres, especially in crosswinds.
  • Mind the height and overhangs when entering garages, toll booths or tunnels; ensure that lights and the number plate remain visible.
  • Avoid automatic car washes with the roof box or roof rack installed unless expressly indicated by the manufacturer.
  • When loading or unloading, use stable footing and secure points of support; do not step onto unstable areas of the vehicle.

Storage and maintenance

  • Clean with water and mild, pH-neutral soap after use, especially if exposed to salt or dust; dry thoroughly before storing.
  • Store in a dry, shaded place with nothing on top, preferably hung or on padded supports that will not deform the structure.
  • Keep seals, straps, fasteners and keys together to prevent loss and ease the next installation.
  • Inspect locks, hinges, seals, straps, supports and fasteners periodically; replace any parts that are worn, cracked, rusty or deformed.
  • Check the tightness and absence of play before each trip.
  • Lightly lubricate the locks if recommended by the manufacturer; avoid solvents or abrasive products.
  • If you are not going to use it for a while, remove it to reduce wear and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun and the elements.

Usage restrictions

  • Do not carry people, animals or unrestrained loads inside the roof box or on the roof rack.
  • Do not exceed the maximum load permitted by the roof rack, the roof bars, the tow ball or the vehicle roof.
  • Do not use the accessory if parts are missing or if any components are damaged, cracked or have play; do not improvise fixings.
  • Do not use as an anchorage point for towing or lifting, nor as a platform to stand or sit on.
  • Do not attach it to unintended surfaces or to vehicles incompatible with the mounting system.
  • Avoid high speeds and demanding off-road driving if the product is not designed for it.
  • Keep children and pets away during assembly, loading and unloading; carry out these operations under adult supervision.
