Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Detachment of the accessory or load due to incorrect fitting or loose fixings.
  • Loss of stability, noise or vibrations due to aerodynamic changes.
  • Obstruction of the driver’s view, lights or number plate.
  • Collisions with garages, toll booths or branches due to the increased height or length of the vehicle.
  • Damage to paintwork, roof or tailgate due to rubbing, pressure points or trapped dirt.
  • Finger entrapment in hinges, latches or tensioned straps during fitting and loading.
  • Interference with the vehicle’s sensors, cameras or aerials.
  • Injuries when lifting or handling heavy or bulky loads.
  • Theft of the accessory or load if not securely locked.

Safe use

  • Check compatibility with your vehicle and use the mounting points specified by the accessory manufacturer.
  • Follow the fitting instructions; fixings must be secure, with no play or deformation.
  • Distribute the load centred and as low as possible; secure it with straps in good condition and with no loose ends.
  • Check tightness and latches after the first few kilometres and periodically on long journeys or after heavy bumps.
  • Before setting off, make sure that lights, indicators and number plate remain visible.
  • Respect the vehicle’s new height and length; take extra care when entering garages, tunnels and when reversing.
  • Avoid covering sensors, cameras or radar sensors; if unusual warnings are detected, remove or reposition the accessory.
  • Drive smoothly, increase your following distance and adjust your speed, especially in crosswinds.
  • Remove protruding or folding accessories before using car washes or when not in use for extended periods.
  • Use locking systems and do not leave valuables on display.

Storage and maintenance

  • Clean the accessory and contact surfaces to remove dust, salt or sand that may scratch or corrode.
  • Inspect straps, latches, bolts and screws, plastics and rubber components; replace worn, cracked or rusty parts.
  • Keep hinges and locks operating smoothly as directed in the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Store in a dry, ventilated place, protected from direct sunlight and excessive heat to prevent warping and degradation.
  • Dry boxes and covers well before storing them to prevent damp and mould.
  • Protect contact areas with covers or cloths and keep seals, adaptors and keys organised.
  • Before each season of use, carry out a full check of the overall condition and the fixings.

Restrictions on use

  • Do not exceed the maximum load stated for the accessory or the load the vehicle can support at those points.
  • Do not carry items that cannot be firmly secured or that protrude in an unstable manner.
  • Do not use the accessory if it shows cracks, deformation, latches that do not engage, or missing parts.
  • Do not mount on incompatible or makeshift bars, mounts or adaptors.
  • Do not obstruct the safe opening of the bonnet, boot or doors; check for sufficient clearance before driving.
  • Do not use brush car-wash tunnels while the accessory is installed, unless expressly permitted by the manufacturer.
  • Do not drive in very strong winds, storms or conditions that could compromise the securing of the load.
  • Do not allow children to climb on, play with or stay nearby during fitting, loading or folding; adult supervision is required.
