Usage Warnings
Window Grilles
Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- Falls while installing or handling at height near the window.
- Blows and cuts from edges or tools; pinching or entrapment in hinges or latches of swing-open grilles.
- Accidentally drilling into cables, pipework or ducts when drilling the wall.
- Detachment due to inadequate fixings or a deteriorated substrate.
- Corrosion or rust that weakens the structure over time, especially in humid or marine environments.
- Blocking escape routes in the event of fire if there is no suitable internal release.
- Damage to the window frame or glass during fixing or adjustment.
- Risk of head, hand or foot entrapment of children or pets if the gaps between bars are wide.
- Overloading or deformation by hanging heavy objects on the grille.
Safe use
- Read the manufacturer's instructions and plan the fixing according to the wall or opening type.
- Before drilling, locate and avoid electrical wiring, gas and water pipes.
- Wear gloves and goggles and, if using power tools, hearing protection. Keep hands clear of hinges and latches.
- Work with assistance on heavy sections and use a stable ladder or scaffold; cordon off the area below to prevent people passing through.
- Offer up the grille before fixing to check level and that it does not interfere with sashes, shutters or insect screens.
- For swing-open models, check they open and close from the inside without sticking; keep the opening mechanism accessible for emergencies.
- Do not climb or lean on the grille; do not use it as an anchorage point or hang plant pots, air conditioning units or other loads from it.
- Ensure the gaps between bars do not allow children or pets to insert their heads or limbs.
- Remove dust and loose material from the substrate before fixing; use fixings and accessories appropriate to the substrate type.
Storage and maintenance
- Store in a dry, covered place; avoid placing weight that could bend the bars. Protect edges and surfaces to prevent scratches.
- Keep the product out of the reach of children during storage and installation.
- Periodically inspect anchors, screws, welds, hinges and locks and latches; retighten or replace damaged or loose parts.
- Remove signs of rust and repaint when necessary; lubricate hinges and locks sparingly.
- Clean with water and neutral soap; avoid abrasive or highly acidic/alkaline products that could damage the coating.
- Regularly check that the opening mechanisms work and that there are no obstacles preventing a quick exit.
- In coastal or very humid areas, increase the frequency of cleaning and inspection to prevent corrosion.
Restrictions of use
- Not a substitute for guardrails or fall-protection systems for people.
- Do not install where it would impede an emergency exit unless an accessible internal release is provided.
- Do not mount on cracked, hollow, rotten or low-strength substrates.
- Do not modify the grille by cutting, welding or drilling structural areas; use only compatible fittings.
- Do not cover or obstruct ventilation grilles or other air inlets.
- Keep keys or opening controls out of the reach of children, but easily locatable for the adults in the household.
- If you have no experience in working at height or structural fixings, consider installation by a qualified professional.
