Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Burns from using a blowtorch and from contact with hot bitumen.
  • Fire when applying heat near combustible materials, electrical or gas installations.
  • Inhalation of bitumen fumes and vapours from primers or adhesives in poorly ventilated spaces.
  • Cuts from utility knives, scissors and cutting tools.
  • Falls and slips on roofs, especially with moisture, dust or debris present.
  • Overexertion and entrapment injuries when handling heavy rolls.
  • Damage to the substrate from overheating or direct flame.
  • Hot particles or sparks projected during overlapping and sealing.
  • Loss of watertightness due to application on substrates that are damp, dirty or unstable.

Safe use

  • Read and follow the manufacturer's instructions for the membrane type, substrate and installation method.
  • Prepare the surface: sound, clean, dry and free of dust; respect the overlaps and direction of installation indicated by the manufacturer.
  • Avoid installing in rain, snow, frost or strong winds; plan water drainage and protect junctions, drains and perimeters.
  • When using a blowtorch, keep the flame moving, avoid overheating and keep an appropriate extinguisher to hand; protect combustible elements with heat shields.
  • Ensure sufficient ventilation when using heat, primers or adhesives; do not smoke or introduce flames or sparks.
  • Check the condition of the gas equipment (hoses, regulator, connections) and place the cylinder upright and stable, away from sources of heat.
  • Use personal protective equipment: heat- and cut-resistant gloves, goggles, long-sleeved clothing and slip-resistant footwear; at height, helmet, harness and lifeline.
  • Make cuts on a stable base, with sharp blades and hands kept clear of the cutting path; retract or guard the blade when finished.
  • Do not step on or load weight onto the freshly applied membrane; allow it to cool and set before walking on it.
  • Keep the work area tidy, remove debris and mark off perimeters and openings on the roof.

Storage and maintenance

  • Store rolls vertically, in a dry, ventilated place, protected from the weather, direct sunlight and sources of heat or ignition.
  • Avoid crushing and deformation: do not overstack or place heavy loads on the rolls.
  • Keep primers and adhesives tightly closed, away from sparks or flames; follow the manufacturer's temperature recommendations.
  • Transport the rolls with appropriate handling aids to avoid overexertion; do not let them roll on the roof.
  • After installation, keep gutters, drains and perimeters clean; remove leaves and debris that may obstruct drainage.
  • Inspect the waterproofing periodically to detect punctures, cracks or delamination and repair them according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Avoid harsh cleaning products or incompatible solvents; do not pierce the membrane to fix elements without appropriate sealing.
  • If occasional traffic is expected, use walkways or suitable protection to avoid damaging the surface.

Restrictions on use

  • Do not expose the membrane to permanent UV radiation unless the product is designed to remain exposed.
  • Do not apply on substrates that are damp, frozen, friable or with loose dust.
  • Do not use flame or solvents in enclosed spaces without adequate ventilation.
  • Do not use near heat-sensitive materials without suitable barriers or protection.
  • Do not use as a surface for intensive foot traffic or wheeled traffic unless systems specifically designed for this are used.
  • Do not combine with adhesives, primers or coatings not specified by the manufacturer.
  • Do not install near chimneys, braziers or heat sources without the appropriate flashings and protections.
  • Keep the product and tools out of the reach of children and pets.
  • Work at height and the use of a blowtorch must be carried out by trained persons and, where appropriate, under competent supervision.
