Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Contamination and transfer of odours if the ice cube tray is used or stored without being cleaned or without a cover in the freezer.
  • Spills when filling or transporting that can create slippery patches of ice in the freezer.
  • Deformation or breakage due to thermal shock (e.g., pouring very hot liquids) or by forcing release with tools.
  • Finger pinches or entrapment in models with a rigid lid or a lever mechanism.
  • Choking on ice cubes in young children or on loose parts from lids/inserts.
  • Minor cuts from broken edges if the material is cracked.

Safe use

  • Wash the ice cube tray before first use and after each use; use drinking water to make the ice cubes.
  • Fill without exceeding the rim and leave a small allowance for the water to expand as it freezes.
  • Place the tray on a flat surface in the freezer; if it includes a lid, close it fully to prevent spills and odours.
  • Allow hot liquids to cool before pouring to avoid thermal shock.
  • To release the cubes, gently flex the tray or follow the manufacturer's instructions; do not use knives or sharp objects. If it has a lever, operate it carefully and keep fingers away from the hinges.
  • Keep the tray out of reach of children during filling and release; offer ice cubes appropriate to the person's age and ability to chew.
  • Do not use the same tray for food and for crafts or non-food substances.

Storage and maintenance

  • Store it clean and completely dry; this helps prevent mould and bad odours. Do not seal it airtight if it is still damp.
  • In the freezer, keep it level and, preferably, covered to reduce odour absorption and cross-contamination.
  • Avoid direct contact with unpackaged raw foods.
  • Check periodically for cracks, discolouration or persistent odours; replace the tray if it shows signs of deterioration.
  • Clean it with a soft sponge and mild detergent; avoid abrasive scourers and harsh products. Check whether your model is dishwasher-safe before using it.
  • Avoid sudden temperature changes (do not move it straight from the freezer to very hot water, or vice versa).
  • Do not stack excessive weight on top to prevent warping.

Usage restrictions

  • Do not use the ice cube tray on heat sources (oven, hob, grill) or in a microwave unless expressly indicated by the manufacturer.
  • Do not use solvents, paints, resins, essential oils or other non-food substances.
  • Do not use the tray if it is cracked, warped or gives off an unusual odour or taste.
  • Do not bang it against hard surfaces to release the cubes, nor use sharp or pointed tools.
  • Do not offer whole ice cubes to young children or to people with swallowing difficulties; supervision is required.
  • Do not use the ice cube tray as a long-term storage container if the cubes have absorbed odours; discard them and refill with fresh water.
