Safety warnings and precautions
Main risks
- Trips and falls caused by fabric on the floor, stand bases, tripod feet and nearby lighting cables.
- Poles and stands tipping over due to knocks, wind or an unevenly distributed load.
- Minor pinches or cuts when handling clamps, rods and the retractable mechanisms of folding backdrops.
- Risk of burns or fire if fabric or paper comes close to hot lights or heat sources.
- Entanglement or suffocation if someone wraps themselves in the fabric, especially children.
- Sudden opening of “pop-up” backdrops that may strike people or objects.
- Build-up of dust or mould in textiles stored while damp, with possible irritation.
Safe use
- Set up the stands on a level surface and secure the bases with counterweights when necessary.
- Extend the backdrop onto the floor without leaving loose folds in the walkway; mark out the work area to prevent accidental treading.
- Keep a safe distance from lights and heaters; do not cover lights, vents or equipment with the backdrop.
- Manage lighting cables with suitable tape or cable covers, and keep exits and corridors clear.
- Open folding backdrops away from your face and from other people; hold them with both hands and control their deployment.
- Use clamps and supports of the appropriate size; keep hands clear of pinch points and check that everything is securely fastened before starting.
- Outdoors, anchor the stands and avoid use in strong wind or rain; do not let the fabric act as a “sail”.
- If using paper rolls, control the unwinding and secure them so they do not fall or accelerate.
Storage and maintenance
- Store the backdrop clean and completely dry in a ventilated place to prevent mould and bad odours.
- Keep fabrics and papers away from open flames, hot lights and prolonged direct sunlight that could degrade them.
- Fold or roll according to the manufacturer’s instructions and use its case to prevent accidental opening in folding models.
- Periodically check seams, eyelets, crossbars, screws and clamps; replace damaged or deformed parts.
- Clean using methods compatible with the material; avoid harsh solvents and test first on an inconspicuous area.
- Store the stands folded with the ends protected; place tubes or panels so they cannot roll or fall.
- For transport, use protective bags or tubes and secure long items to avoid striking people or surfaces.
Restrictions on use
- Do not use as a play item, blanket or makeshift divider, nor allow children to wrap themselves in the fabric.
- Do not set up near open flames, heaters, cigarettes or equipment that emits intense heat.
- Do not cover smoke detectors, emergency exits, radiators or ventilation systems.
- Do not use with unstable stands, loose parts, or torn fabrics/rolls that could rip during the session.
- Do not hang from ceilings or walls with adhesives or makeshift fixings that cannot support the weight.
- Do not leave the setup unattended outdoors or in busy walkways.
- Do not iron or apply steam at high temperatures without verifying the material’s compatibility.
