Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Cuts from sharp edges or chipped pieces, especially in glass or rigid materials.
  • Breakage due to impact or dropping, with possible scattering of sharp fragments.
  • Slippage of the board if it is not well seated or if the table is very smooth.
  • Heat damage: marks, warping or discolouration when placing very hot containers.
  • Moisture trapped between the protector and the table that may cause stains or swelling of the furniture.
  • Deterioration of the finish due to unsuitable cleaning products or adhesives that leave residue.
  • Toppling of objects if the board overhangs, is uneven, or covers support points.
  • Finger trapping when placing or moving heavy or rigid boards.

Safe use

  • Check dimensions and that the surface is level, clean and dry before placing the protector.
  • Handle large pieces with both hands; with fragile materials avoid knocks and resting on the edges.
  • Use coasters and heat-resistant mats or trivets; do not place pots, pans or very hot objects directly.
  • Avoid cutting, piercing or drilling on the protector unless it is designed for it.
  • Do not drag the board or heavy objects across it; lift them to prevent scratches to the protector and the table.
  • If the material is very smooth, add compatible non-slip pads or sheets to improve stability.
  • Check there are no protrusions in walkways and that the board sits centred and stable.
  • Clean up spilt liquids immediately so they do not seep in at the edges or stain the underside.

Storage and maintenance

  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild soap; avoid abrasive scouring pads, products with strong solvents, or alcohol if they could dull the material.
  • Dry completely before putting it back in place to avoid trapping moisture.
  • Periodically inspect edges, cracks, warping and non-slip pads; replace any that are worn or damaged.
  • Store pieces you do not use flat, with no weight on top, protected from impacts and not resting on their edges.
  • Keep away from direct heat sources and prolonged sun exposure that may warp or discolour.
  • If using tapes or adhesives, test them first in an inconspicuous area and remove carefully to avoid residue.

Usage restrictions

  • Do not use as a load-bearing surface: do not sit, stand or use as a step.
  • Do not place near open flames or on hot hobs or heating elements.
  • Not suitable for outdoor use unless the product indicates so; avoid continuous moisture and exposure to the elements.
  • Do not cover freshly painted or varnished surfaces until fully cured to prevent marks or adhesion.
  • Keep out of reach of small children if there are loose or fragile parts; do not allow play on the board.
  • Do not use if it shows breaks, cracks or instability; replace before further use.
  • Avoid prolonged contact with staining substances (inks, dyes, very acidic foods); use an additional tablecloth or placemat/trivet when necessary.
