Usage Warnings

Sofas

Safety warnings and precautions

Main risks

  • Falls or tip-overs when sitting down abruptly, climbing or jumping on the sofa, especially with lightweight models or unconnected modules.
  • Entrapment of fingers, hands or clothing in reclining mechanisms, footrests or sofa beds during opening or closing.
  • Fire or burns from sparks, cigarettes, candles, or proximity to heaters and radiators.
  • Suffocation with packaging bags and plastics during unpacking.
  • Floor damage and injuries from dragging the sofa or lifting it without the proper technique.
  • Detachment of buttons, tacks or other small parts that may pose a risk to children and pets.
  • Skin reactions or initial odours due to off-gassing of volatile compounds; build-up of dust and mites that may affect sensitive individuals.
  • Electrical risk and trip hazards from cables on sofas with powered functions or charging ports.

Safe use

  • Place the sofa on a level surface and securely connect the modules where the design provides for it.
  • Observe the maximum load per seat stated by the manufacturer and distribute weight; avoid sitting on armrests or on the backrest.
  • Keep a safe distance from heat sources and avoid smoking or using candles near the upholstery.
  • If the model includes reclining, footrests or a bed, keep hands, feet, hair and objects away from hinges and gaps; check that no one is nearby before operating.
  • When folding or unfolding a sofa bed, perform the movement slowly and in a controlled manner; do not allow anyone to sit or play during the manoeuvre.
  • On electric models, route cables through safe areas to avoid tripping or pinching them; unplug before cleaning or moving.
  • When unpacking, cut the packaging without directing the blade towards the fabrics; remove and dispose of plastics out of the reach of children and pets; ventilate the room for the first few hours.
  • To move it, remove cushions and modules, protect the floor and lift it by the frame with two or more people; do not drag it.

Storage and maintenance

  • Keep the sofa away from moisture and prolonged direct sunlight to prevent mould, discolouration or cracking.
  • Vacuum regularly and clean up spills immediately with a soft cloth; use only products compatible with the material and test them first in a discreet area.
  • Rotate or swap the cushions where possible for even wear and air the fillings regularly.
  • Periodically check legs, screws, joints, staples, buttons and seams; tighten or repair loose parts and stop using the sofa if you detect instability or damage.
  • For mechanisms, remove fluff from tracks and joints; lubricate only if recommended by the manufacturer.
  • On sofas with electrical components, inspect cables and plugs; do not use the product if they show damage and avoid letting them become trapped under legs or mechanisms.
  • If you live with pets, consider protective covers to reduce scratches and hair.
  • If you need to store it temporarily, do so in a dry, ventilated place, on a flat surface, covered with a breathable cover and without placing weight on top.

Usage restrictions

  • Intended for indoor use; do not expose to rain, snow or constant condensation except for models specifically designed for outdoor use.
  • Do not use as a ladder, work platform, trampoline or cot; it is not a safe surface for babies to sleep on.
  • Do not allow rough play or climbing on the backrest or armrests; children must be supervised, especially when operating mechanisms or near sofa beds.
  • Do not modify the structure, or remove legs, fixings or supports; do not drill the frame to add accessories.
  • Do not completely cover mechanisms or electrical components with covers that impede their ventilation on models that include them.
  • Do not place direct heat sources or appliances that generate sparks on the upholstery.
  • Do not insert objects into mechanism gaps or sit on the edge of an open footrest.
  • With people with reduced mobility, take extra care with very low, soft or wheeled sofas and supervise the use of mechanisms.
