Usage Warnings

Fencing Wires and Accessories

Warnings and safety precautions

Main risks

  • Cuts and punctures from edges, points and freshly cut wire ends.
  • Wire recoil or whip-back when tensioning or releasing it, with possible impact to eyes and face.
  • Snagging on clothing or skin and tripping hazards from loose or hanging wires.
  • Pinches or entrapment when using tensioners, staples, clamps and fastening tools.
  • Failure due to corrosion, fatigue or loose fixings that may cause mesh, screening or light loads to fall.
  • Risk of electric shock if the wire comes into contact with power cables or electrified fences.
  • Damage to supports (posts, walls, railings) if accessories are fixed to unsuitable surfaces.

Safe use

  • Review the instructions and always use tough gloves and eye protection when cutting, tensioning or handling wire.
  • Tension gradually and in a controlled manner. Keep people and pets out of the wire’s line of pull while working.
  • Secure the section firmly before cutting and direct the cut away from your body. Control the ends to prevent whip-back.
  • Finish cuts by bending the end over or covering it with end caps or suitable tape to eliminate exposed edges.
  • Use compatible accessories (tensioners, staples, clamps) of the correct size and type; avoid knots or improvised fixings that could work loose.
  • Check the strength of anchors and the capacity of the support before applying tension or hanging lightweight items.
  • Keep the work area tidy and free of offcuts; collect and dispose of wire remnants immediately.
  • Work away from power lines and wiring. Do not use these products with electrified systems unless they are specifically designed for that purpose.

Storage and maintenance

  • Store coils secured with ties or binding wire to prevent sudden unspooling. Keep them stable to stop them rolling.
  • Store in a dry, ventilated place. Avoid persistent moisture, splashes of saline water, or contact with fertilisers and corrosive substances.
  • Outdoors, periodically inspect the condition of the wire and accessories: rust, broken strands, deformations, loose or sharp fixings.
  • Readjust any slackened tensions and replace without delay parts that are damaged, rusty, or present dangerous edges.
  • On moving parts such as tensioners, apply light lubrication when necessary and remove dirt that could affect their operation.
  • Coil and secure leftovers; store them out of reach of children and pets to prevent entanglement or cuts.

Usage restrictions

  • Do not use wire and accessories for lifting, suspending loads, supporting the weight of people or animals, or as safety equipment (handrails, lifelines, swings or hammocks).
  • Do not use these products for electrical applications, nor install them near electrical lines or equipment.
  • Do not install them in walkways at face height without protecting ends and protrusions.
  • Do not force installations on fragile or deteriorated supports. If the support is not suitable, avoid fixing to it.
  • Installation, adjustment and cutting must be carried out by adults only. Keep children and pets away throughout the process.
  • Avoid direct contact with food or drinking water unless the product expressly states such suitability.
